This is an exciting opportunity for a friendly, reliable and honest person who is passionate about care work. You would be joining a team of 7 Care Assistants to assist and support me in all aspects of my life.

I am a young man in his 30s with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy who requires 24-hour care by trained Care Assistants. I breathe through a tracheostomy and require the use of a ventilator 24 hours a day.

I also have very limited mobility and am confined to a wheelchair, requiring full assistance for everything.  I live in Crawley, West Sussex with my mother.

No experience is required, as full training will be provided where needed.

Your main duties will include monitoring my health and wellbeing throughout the night and helping me with personal care, healthcare/medical and domestic tasks on a regular basis. 

Occasionally your duties may involve admin and social support tasks. You will also accompany me whenever I go out or on holiday. 

You must have a valid UK driving licence. 

The main purpose of the role is to enable me to live as independently as possible in my home.



  • Days Required: Flexible, depending on the needs of the employer
  • Shifts: 12-hour shifts: 8.00am to 8.00pm  

Other Requirements

Must have a UK driving licence

All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check

Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.

Gastrostomy (PEG) care 

Turning the PEG 

Checking the PEG balloon 

Changing the PEG tube 

Administering the PEG feed and flushing the PEG tube 

Tracheostomy care 

Ambu bagging 

Managing emergency situations 

Ventilator and humidifier management 

Skin care 

Getting to and from medical appointments 

Chest physio and cough assist 

Diabetes care 


Oral suctioning 

Tracheal suctioning 

Suction unit management 

Managing medical supplies 

Monitoring saturation and heart rate 

Checking medical equipment 

Admin Tasks:

Tasks will include helping with:

Opening and sorting post 

Filling in forms 

Making and answering telephone calls

Arranging, cancelling  or rescheduling appointments 

Sending post

Domestic Tasks:

Tasks will include helping with:

Household tidying and polishing 

Vacuuming and mopping floors 

Kitchen, bathroom and toilet cleaning 

Laundry and ironing 

Routine and light maintenance 

Cleaning and washing car 


Managing clinical waste bins 

Correspondence and making appointments 

Cleaning medical equipment 

Cleaning and tidying computer and electrical equipment

The successful applicant will be:

Be permitted to work in the United Kingdom 

Have good communication skills in English

Have previous experience of providing care

Be able to work days and nights 

Be able to cover weekends, bank holidays and do extra shifts to cover sickness and annual leave

Desirable Qualities

It is desirable but not necessary  for candidates to:

Have NVQ II (or higher) in Health and Social Care or equivalent care qualifications 

Have experience of working with a person with Muscular Dystrophy

Have experience of working with a person with a tracheostomy 

Have experience of working with a person using a ventilator 

Be a Non-smoker
