Personal Assistant / Companion

I am an 8 years old Boy and suffer from MPS1 (Hurlers) 

I am very active and very self-led but require 1-2-1 supervision at all times.  I will need food and drinks prepared, hygiene needs meet (pads changing – washing hands – cleaning teeth etc)  and constant encouragement and guidance to transition between activates.  

The role will include lifting if needed and keeping my environment clean and tidy to avoid hazards. You will also need to be energetic, motivating and have lots of patience.

My safety is paramount as I have no awareness of danger and have several health issues that need monitoring (A full  breakdown of all health risk awareness will be provided during the induction. )

In general – I am lots of fun and very loving! Happy to sit on your lap for cuddles and watch Disney TV! I also enjoy going to the park – Scooting and making lots of mess! 

On occasion my Sister (12 yrs) may stay with me so my Mum and Dad can have a break – She is a great help and lots of fun too.  



Mon – Thurs  3pm – 6pm  (Term time)

Saturday & Sunday 11-3

Occasional Evening work hours

School holiday hours (varied)  

Other Requirements

Must be comfortable with pets

UK driving licence preferred but not essential 

Access to own vehicle Preferred but not essential

All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check

Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.



Typical duties

Domestic -    

Preparing drinks, snacks and meals.


Personal Care:

Washing and bathing/showering – towelling dry/ drying hair

Supervision and/or assistance with showering, drying, hair washing/ brushing as required

Help getting into and out of bath/shower as required

General hair/skin care

Using the toilet / Changing Pads

Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings

Getting into bed

Mealtimes e.g. cutting up food, assistance to eat

Physiotherapy exercises 


Accompanying and assisting employer on shopping trips when required

Accompany employer when accessing social and leisure activities 

Accompanying on trips out eg to the garden centre, beach, cinema, attending social events.

Accompanying to social meetings eg friends, family

Whilst on duty at the employer’s home watching TV and assisting with craft activities

Lifting the folding wheelchair in/out of car, pushing the employer’s manual wheelchair when out.

The successful applicant will be:

Reliable with good time-keeping

Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative

Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised

Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties

Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills

Honest and cheerful


Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard

Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom

Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety

Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
