Part time Personal Care Assistants required to support elderly, blind lady to live independently in her own home.  Assistance with personal care, meal preparation and housework required.  Some experience of dementia and food hygiene would be an advantage, but a friendly, patient, sociable person with a good sense of humour is essential.  Training will be provided.  The job is located approx.15 minutes’ walk from Worthing town centre off the seafront.  Parking is available and close to public transport.   


Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes approx 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Saturday and Sunday teatimes approx 5:30pm to 6:30pm

Saturday and Sunday evening shifts to be agreed and arranged.

Monday and Friday evening shifts to agreed and arranged.

About the employer:

I am an elderly lady with extremely poor eyesight and other disabilities. I am interested in all sorts of things like politics and I try to keep up to date with what is going on in the world 

Nature of the work:

To provide support to an elderly blind lady with the early onset of dementia.  The work will involve personal care, domestic assistance in her home, and overseeing her meals and medication. Some social or recreational work may be required. 

Typical duties

Domestic -    

Laundry, hanging out to dry, ironing, putting away

Changing bed linen

Meals - preparing, cooking and washing up: preparing drinks


General housework, including cleaning, particularly the  kitchen and bathroom, dusting and vacuuming 

Minor household maintenance e.g. changing light bulbs, taking down curtains for washing

Personal Care:

Washing and bathing/showering – towelling dry/ drying hair

Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings

Medication and dressings e.g. helping sort out tablets, reminding the client to take tablets

Mealtimes e.g. cutting up food, assistance to eat

Correspondence e.g. reading personal letters aloud, writing replies

You would receive full guidance from the client’s representative in all of the above, so no experience is necessary.  


Accompanying on trips out e.g. out shopping for fun, meeting friends, 

Accompanying to social meetings e.g. friends, family

Making tea for the client’s guests

Reading books aloud to the client


Person specification

The successful applicant will be: 

Female as personal care is involved and I am a female 

Have reasonable English, so that you could write a letter

Able to undertake housework and domestic tasks to a high standard

Fit and healthy enough to undertake the full range of tasks

Able to learn the needs of a disabled person 

Able to respect privacy and confidentiality

Honest and trustworthy

Cheerful and positive

Reliable, with good time-keeping

Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative



Additional Information

It’s also desirable if you:

Have had training relevant to the job e.g. food hygiene, first aid, home safety, lifting and handling.

Have some experience/knowledge of onset of dementia.

Are a driver with own car (not essential)
