Summary

Support Worker/Personal Care Assistant required for 12 year old boy living with his family and pet dog in East Preston, near Angmering station.  

He has a learning disability and uses a wheelchair outside of the home.  

He is unable to communicate verbally and uses PECS.

He likes reading and playing with cars, going to the park.  

Duties include support with personal care, feeding, and playing.  Assistance with going to the park and other fun activities outside of the home may be required.  

You must be reliable, flexible, trustworthy, patient and cheerful. 

Respect for the family’s privacy and confidentiality is very important.    

Own car would be useful but not essential.  

There might be the possibility of working some of the hours as a babysitting shift in the evenings.  

 

Hours/Shifts

4.00-6.30pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Some of these hours could occasionally be worked as a babysitting shift in the evening.  

Other Requirements

Must be comfortable with pets

All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check

Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.

 

Description

Nature of the work:

To assist the child with independent living activities in his own home and out in the community.  To support the child’s mother with her caring role.  You will report to the mother, who is the employer.   

Typical duties

Personal Care:

Support with showering e.g. getting undressed, hoisting, washing.

Help with feeding. 

Help with getting ready for bed e.g. changing pad, getting into pyjamas, hoisting 

Social:            

Playing, interacting with the child in his own home.  

Assisting with attending and participating in fun activities outside of the home e.g. going for walks, to the park, using the bus.  

 

Person specification

The successful applicant will be: 

Experience of working with disabled children preferred

Own car would be useful but not essential

Be respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality

Reliable with good time-keeping

Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative

Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties

Patient 

Honest and cheerful

Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard

Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom

Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety

Comfortable with dogs
