Summary

Personal Support Assistant/Facilitator 

Assistance dog will accompany at all times

Variable health condition – some days/week home based only

Female wheelchair user

Small amount of personal care as required

Require assistance to access the community

Mobile around the home in wheelchair

Needs assistance to access toilet in home

To prepare drinks and snacks

Enjoys cinema

Enjoys baking

Very strict non-smoking environment. 

Non-smoker preferred as client may have respiratory issues if your clothing smells of smoke

Applicants must be over 25 due to vehicle insurance requirements

 

Hours/Shifts

4 days a week, (not Wednesday) 12 noon to 5 pm with the occasional evening as arranged.  Flexibility in these hours would be appreciated. To discuss at interview.

Must be comfortable with pets- Assistance Dog

Must have a UK driving licence

Other : Must be happy to drive client in her own vehicle. (Clients vehicle also has a dash cam).

Place of work will be in the employer’s family home with other adult family members around who may activities participate in occasional.

Applicants must be over 25 due to vehicle insurance requirements. 

All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check

Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.

 

Description

Typical duties

Domestic -       

Assisting with baking

Assisting to prepare healthy and nutritious food and drink.

Personal Care:   (please add in/delete as applicable)

Assist with some basic aspects of personal care as and when required. 

Assist with dressing/undressing as required

Assist employer in and out of her Motability vehicle.

Prompt to take medication as required

Assist employer to transfer between bed/toilet/wheelchair/car etc as required

Must be willing to pick up dog poo with appropriate H&S measures such as gloves and hand sanitizer 

Social:       

Accompanying employer to doctors/hospital appointments when required

Support and assist employer to access the local community

To motivate and suggest potential new activities

Assist employer to develop new and maintain existing family/personal relationships

Facilitate and encourage employer to become more independent within her local community

Facilitate employer to access shops and to make purchases

I do a lot of photography – must be willing and able to carry my camera bag and change lenses etc

Attend daytime classes with employer and facilitate  learning (drawing, needlework, cooking, crafts etc)

To carry out all tasks in a manner that promotes and maintains as much independence and respect as possible for the employer

To carry out all tasks while ensuring the health & safety of the employer, the employee and others.

Employer uses a power chair when out in the community.

Please note: The employer’s  Assistance dog will accompany you both at all times

 

Person specification

The successful applicant will be: 

Non smoker

Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality

Reliable with excellent time-keeping

Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative (once they know preferences)

Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised

Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties

Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills

Able to get on well with dogs

Pleasant disposition

Good sense of humour

Honest and cheerful

Basic good cooking skills

Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard

Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom

Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety

Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
