Independent Lives is working with Disability Inclusion to offer free informal training workshops on disability awareness for individual employers and their personal assistants.

The workshops are free to attend and we can also pay for travel costs, thanks to Skills for Care funding.

The workshops are on East and West Sussex, and Hampshire, from October 2018 to January 2019.

We are inviting people with support needs and their Personal Assistants to come along to this informal and friendly workshop designed to help Personal Assistants and disabled people feel more confident and comfortable in exploring:

  • Appropriate language and communication skills
  • Common misconceptions, stereotyping, and bias
  • The medical and social model of disability
  • Boundaries, sympathy and empathy
  • Legislation: The Disability Act and The Equality Act
  • The professional relationship between a Personal Assistant and their employer

The Disability Awareness workshop is delivered by supportive and understanding training professionals, and has been designed by people with support needs.
