Independent Lives presents… Superhero Sunday!

Come and join Independent Lives later this month for some superhero themed fun!

On Sunday 22 September from 13:30 – 15:30 at Impulse Leisure in Lancing, we’re holding an afternoon of superhero-based fun! With a bouncy castle, soft play area, a disco and maybe even some super-secret superhero appearances (but shh… you didn’t hear it from me!)

It’s all for a great cause too! 100% of all the proceeds will be put towards an accessible vehicle as we are fundraising to provide accessible transport for disabled adults and children across West Sussex.

Tickets might sell out in a flash, so make like the Green Arrow and shoot your way over to www.independentlives.org/event/superhero-sunday to book your tickets today!

(But please don’t get angry if you miss out, we don’t like you when you’re angry).

Other upcoming Independent Lives events!

For our West Sussex based Direct Payment customers, a reminder that we have two excellent events coming up later this month that may be of interest to you.

On Friday 13 September, we’re running one of our ‘How to be an effective employer’ workshops from 10:00 – 14:00 at the East Worthing Community Centre, Pages Lane, BN11 2NQ.

Whether you’ve only just started employing using Direct Payments, or if you’ve been doing it for years and just feel you need a refresher on certain aspects, then this is the event for you!

And on Wednesday 18 September, we’re running one of our brand new ‘Peer Support’ groups from 14:00 – 16:00 at the Newell Centre, Tozer Way, Chichester, PO19 7LG.

The Peer Support group is an excellent opportunity to have a chat with other Direct Payment customers, to share ideas and to feel more confident when using your Direct Payment to employ staff.

Both the effective employer event and peer support group are completely free, all you need to do to be able to attend is to contact us to book your place.

For more information on either of these events and to book your place, please give us a call on 01903 219482 or email our advice team at [email protected]

Disabled students allowance information

It’s September, so that means it’s time for students all across the country to head off to University and to eat nothing but baked beans for a month (maybe that was just me).

If you’re a student with a learning difficulty or disability you may be able to receive additional support to help you manage your studies. This is called a Disabled Student’s Allowance.

The always excellent Independent Living has put together a great article on this, breaking down costings, what the support can be used for and how you can apply.
