Job Title: Autism Support Worker
Location:        Slinfold, Horsham    
Salary:      £22,500.00 to £25,000.00 /year   (pro rate for part time)

Hours/shifts: full time = 40 hours per week – part time negotiable
The role will involve supporting a friendly 17 year old boy with non verbal autism before and after school and in school holidays and would suit a fun, active and reliable candidate who is looking for a fulfilling role working in a family environment as an independent carer and part of a small friendly team.
Full time role
Hours can be flexible at times but average 40 hours per week. Term time should follow the pattern of approx. 5 hours a day on 4 school days and 1 overnight shift a week with alternate weekends off and day time shifts of 4-6 hours on working weekend.
These hours are negotiable with the right candidate and there will be some flexibility as we are looking for 2 positions.
Part –time role
Hours can be as flexible as needed for the part time role and are negotiable with the right candidate as you would be part of a small team.
The role will involve supporting the client before and after school
Candidates will need to be fit and healthy and keen to participate and organize fun, appropriate activities and outings to help fill the out of school hours.

Previous experience of working with kids/adults with autism is essential.

Typical duties
Domestic -        
Helping with laundry, washing and drying and putting away
Loading and unloading the washing machine
Loading and unloading tumble dryer/washing line
Changing bed linen
Bed making
General cleaning
Preparing drinks, snacks and meals.
Personal Care:  
• Washing and bathing/showering – towelling dry/ drying hair
• Supervision and/or assistance with showering, drying, hair washing/ brushing as required
• Help getting into and out of bath/shower as required
• To be on call when employer takes bath
• Assistance with applying cream
• General hair/skin care
• Using the toilet, wiping etc,
• Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings
• Helping with other aspects of personal care as required, for example assisting employer to get changed at swimming pool/gym.
• Mealtimes e.g. cutting up food, assistance to eat
• Accompanying and assisting employer on shopping trips
• Accompany employer when accessing social and leisure activities, including to swimming lessons, the gym, and karate.
• Accompanying employer to doctors/hospital appointments when required
• Accompanying on trips out e.g. to the library, the vet, meditation classes, yoga for people with ME, to see family.
• Driving and accompanying to social events such as:
• Cinema
• school
• Evening meetings
• Accompanying on trips out e.g. to take photographs at the beach or in the woods or, visiting friends.
• Accompanying on trips out eg to the garden centre, beach, cinema, craft fairs, local visits, out shopping for fun, attending social events, attending therapies and disability group
• Accompanying to social meetings eg friends, family
• The above duties will involve driving the employer in a car supplied for use when working, Whilst on duty at the employer’s home watching TV and assisting with craft activities
