Care (Education) Treatment Reviews (C(E)TRs)
We deliver Care (Education) and Treatment Reviews for autistic people and people with learning disabilities. Our reviews help make sure people are getting the right care, in the right place, and that their voice is heard.
A Care, (Education) and Treatment Review (C(E)TR) is a meeting designed to support individuals with learning disabilities, autism, or both. It brings together the individual, and the people supporting their care, to have an open conversation about what's working well, what could be better, and what changes might help. The review ensures they're receiving the right support in the best place for their needs.
Each review is led by an independent panel that includes a chair, a clinical expert, and an expert by experience - someone who is autistic, has learning disabilities, or is a family carer themselves. This ensures there's always someone on the panel who truly understands from personal experience.
The review ensures individuals are receiving the right support in the best place for their needs, with a clear plan that focuses on what matters to them and how they want to live their life. C(E)TRs are designed to help autistic people and people with learning disabilities stay in their communities, close to family and friends. For those currently in hospital or other inpatient settings, the review explores all the options and possibilities for their care.
Who are C(E)TRs for?
Reviews for individuals under 18 are called Care, Education and Treatment Reviews (CETRs), while reviews for adults are called Care and Treatment Reviews (CTRs).
C(E)TRs are for autistic people and people with learning disabilities who are:
- At risk of being admitted to a mental health hospital or other inpatient unit
- Currently in an inpatient setting and planning to return to the community
- In a setting where there are concerns about their care or support
C(E)TRs can be requested by the person themselves, their family, carers, or the professionals supporting them.
The C(E)TR process
We conduct thorough, independent reviews that result in clear plans with specific actions and timescales. Our focus is on keeping people in their communities, close to the people who matter most.
