Summary Description Local part time Carer/Personal Assistant/Support worker required to support a disabled lady with Learning Disabilities. M. is a young at heart, 52 year old lady with a very caring and compassionate nature. She is fun loving, has a lovely sense of humour, is very sociable and loves spending time with her family and friends. Main duties: To provide general support and care as part of an existing team, support is given alongside a current experienced Personal Assistant to provide 2:1 support to M. • Assist with personal care and activities• Assist in practical activities of daily living (e.g. morning and bedtime routine, prompting eating, drinking, using the toilet, washing, dressing, socialising locally, assist with communication) • Assist with problem solving, explain things and encourage appropriate behaviour • On occasions assist M. in using public transport or assist with transport to and from activities by using the employee’s car • Once staff is fully trained, it is expected to cover 1/2 sleep-in nights when other staff members are on leave, sickness or when the agency can’t cover; extra nights might be available Required skills: • Good communication , listening and organisational skills • Empathy for adult with Learning Disabilities and their specific requirements • Being very patient, ability to use initiative and to work under pressure• Ability to solve problems and to be creative in finding solutions• Experience of managing behaviour is essential (detailed training/guidance will be given)• General knowledge of Autism and/or of other learning disabilities essential • Ability to cover extra hours an advantage • Clean driving license and car required to drive M. to and from activities • Being alert and able to risk assess, • Being kind, positive, firm and consistent approach • Outgoing, friendly, reliable, flexible and trustworthy and good sense of humour All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service checkSuccessful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.
