I prefer people to adopt a gentle and a non-rushed style of support as I can get anxious if I feel under too much pressure. Minor household maintenance eg changing light bulbsPreparing drinks, snacks and meals.Supervision of employer using kitchen equipment.ShoppingTidyingCorrespondence e.g. sending birthday/xmas cards, reading letters, help writing replies, form-filling, assisting with household paperwork Personal Care: • Supervision and/or assistance with showering, drying, hair washing/ brushing as required• Help getting into and out of bath/shower as required• To be on call when employer takes bath• Assistance with medication i.e. helping to take tablets from foil/packets• Helping with other aspects of personal care as required, for example assisting employer to get changed at swimming pool/gym. • Assistance to insert earplugs at all times when swimming, showering or bathing and drying hair BEFORE earplugs are removed.• Prompting to moisturise legs and arms after swimming.• Any other similar tasks that may be requested/needed.• Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastening Help with dispensing tablets Social: • Accompanying and assisting employer on shopping trips when required• Accompany employer when accessing social and leisure activities, including to swimming lessons, the gym etc. • Accompanying employer to doctors/hospital appointments when required• Accompanying when clothes-buying, including help with undressing and lifting clothes on/off the rails.• Occasional longer journeys• Accompanying on trips out e.g. to the library, cinema, bowling, theatre, meals out, pubs, etc. • Driving and accompanying to social events such as:• Cinema• Church • Daytime or Evening meetings• Accompanying on trips out eg to the garden centre, beach, cinema, craft fairs, local visits, out shopping for fun, attending social events, attending therapies and disability group • Accompanying to social meetings eg friends, family• Help and practise with my mobile phone and camera, house phone, ipad, facebook etc.• The above duties will involve driving the employer in the PA’s car.• All activities outside the home, the PA must link arms with the employer to ensure her safety from trips, falls and traffic etc. Person specificationThe successful applicant will be: • A female Personal Assistant is required due to personal care needs • Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality• Reliable with good time-keeping• Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative• Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised• Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties• Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills• Honest and cheerful and self motivated• Creative• Able to speak and read English to a good standard• Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom• Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety• An ability to use facebook, ipad and computer etc.Previous experience and an understanding of adults with Learning Disabilities is desirable but not essential.
