Job Title: Female Personal Assistant

Hours/shifts: 10-20 hours a fortnight, flexible. At weekends, evenings and overnight cover.
Summary
We require a Pa to support our 12 year old daughter with all aspects of her daily living. This includes enteral feeding, personal care, washing and showering and supporting with play and leisure activities both in the home and out. Training will be provided for feeding, airway management, epilepsy management and administration of medication.

Description
Typical duties
Domestic -    
General tidying up after performing care eg. disposal of linen, nappies, clothes.
Washing and cleaning of equipment used during care period.
Maintain safe home environment for child eg. remove hazards and reduce risks as much as possible. Ensure all emergency equipment working and in place.
Personal Care: 
Safe moving and handling, use of tracking hoist for transfers as appropriate.
Washing, showering, dressing.
Continence management eg.  toileting, nappy changing, skin care.
Care of gastro-jejunostomy, enteral feeding via pump or bolus.
Frequent administration of medicines via gastrostomy.
Management of frequent epileptic seizures including use of vagal nerve stimulator and administration of emergency medicine.
Management of airway, care of choking child, use of suction machine.
Perform massage to hands, physiotherapy stretches and apply orthotics.
Social:     
• To encourage and facilitate interaction with the child eg. playing with toys, music CDs, sensory lights, watching DVDs.
• To assist with communication: encourage eye contact, vocalisations, use some signs and respond to signs of distress.
• To take child outdoors in wheelchair eg. garden, park, around town.  Pushing of wheelchair is required.
• Providing escort support to mother and child when on excursions, to and from appointments etc.

Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
