Hourly rate: £10.00 per hour Weekdays and £12.50 Weekends
Reference: DP6776
Hours/shifts: 5.30pm to 8pm on Wednesday Saturday and Sunday.
With the flexibility for overtime when other cover is required.

Summary:

Patient, empathetic and reliable PA required to support my 90 yr old mother with advanced dementia. Tasks will include assisting with personal care is, food prep and assistance with eating, administering prescription medication and light household duties.

Description
Typical duties

Domestic -
Preparing drinks, snacks and meals
General housework tasks, including cleaning, dusting and vacuuming
Tidying
Taking out rubbish
Bed making, changing bed linen
Helping with laundry, washing, drying, ironing, putting away
Minor household maintenance, e.g. changing light bulbs, taking down curtains for washing
Making tea for the employer's guests
Shopping

Personal Care:
• Assistance/supervision with washing, bathing/showering and drying as required
• Help getting into and out of bath/shower as required
• Drying/brushing hair
• Assistance with applying cream
• General hair/skin care
• Catheter care
• Using the toilet
• Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings
• Getting into bed
• Help with dispensing tablets
• Ensuring medication taken at correct times
• Getting in and out of the wheelchair ('transferring')
• Mealtimes e.g. cutting up food, assistance to eat
• Physiotherapy exercises

Social:
• Accompanying employer to doctors/hospital appointments when required
• Whilst on duty at the employer’s home watching TV and assisting with craft activities

Person specification
The successful applicant will be:
• Female * due to personal care needs
• Experience with dementia is essential
• Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality
• Reliable with good time-keeping
• Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
• Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised
• Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
• Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills
• Honest and cheerful
• Creative
• Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
• Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom
• Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety
Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
