Summary
Female PA/Carer required to Support with some personal care on the weekdays and on the weekdays would be to support with administering medication. Located in my own home a five minute walk from Chichester City Centre.

Hours/Shifts

Saturday 9 hours 8am – 12pm and 4pm - 9pm

Sunday 9 hours 8am - 12pm and 4pm - 9pm

UK driving licence desirable and be over 21 (for insurance reasons) but not vital for this role

Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.

Job description

Nature of the work

To fully assist me in all aspects of personal care and with social and leisure activities. An ideal candidate would need to be flexible and adaptive as the role can be varied depending upon my diary. One of the set aspects of the role is to help me to have a bath. It may also involve running errands around town, helping me with the telephone and sending letters and emails. (As such a competent level of English language and computer literacy will be required)

Typical duties

Domestic

  • Laundry, washing, drying, hanging out to dry, ironing, putting away
  • Loading and unloading dishwasher/hand washing dishes
  • Changing bed linen/Bed making
  • General cleaning and tidying/Taking out rubbish
  • General housework, including cleaning, dusting and vacuuming – we have a regular cleaner but you may be required to help out from time to time to cover holidays and sickness.
  • Minor household maintenance e.g. changing light bulbs, taking down curtains for washing
  • Preparing drinks, snacks and meals.
  • Shopping
  • Maintenance of small garden, perhaps half an hour a week
  • Correspondence e.g. reading letters, help writing replies, form-filling, assisting with household paperwork
  • Making phone calls on my behalf including helping me with my headset
  • Making tea for the employer's guests
  • Other light domestic tasks as reasonably required by the employer

Personal Care

  • Washing and bathing – towelling dry/ drying hair – When bathing you will be required to put me in the bath with the aid of a hoist and to bend over into the bath to clean me. You will not be required to lift my full body weight but it is a moderately physical role.
  • Brushing teeth
  • Applying skin creams
  • General hair/skin care/maintaining fingernails
  • Catheter care – help me empty/change my bag (the community nurse will come fit my Catheter for me)
  • Using the toilet
  • Dressing and undressing
  • Getting into bed and out of bed using a hoist
  • Help with dispensing and administering tablets
  • Getting in and out of the wheelchair - transferring with the aid of a hoist
  • Mealtimes e.g. cutting up food, assistance to eat
  • Physiotherapy exercises as required
  • Other Personal Care tasks as reasonably required by the employer

Social

  • You must be able to push me in my wheelchair to the cinema and to other social activities. You need to dress appropriately for all weather conditions and must wear sensible footwear. This will require a moderate level of physical activity.
  • Accompanying and assisting employer on shopping trips when required this may include dressing me in new clothing to check it fits/looks right.
  • Accompany employer when accessing social and leisure activities, including trips to the cinema, theatre and MS Society meetings.
  • Accompanying employer to doctors/dentists/hospital appointments when required.
  • Occasional longer journeys.
  • Accompanying on trips out of town e.g. to the garden centre, beach, cinema, craft fairs, local visits, out shopping for fun, attending social events and disability groups. This may involve where applicable driving the employer in the Van, operating the folding lift and pushing wheelchair in/out of van, pushing the employer’s wheelchair when out – full training will be given.

  • Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
