Hours/shifts: 3 – 4 hours a day, 7 days a week, hours are flexible and can be discussed at interview – A job share will be considered, so please apply is you can do any off the hours

Summary

 

  • Kind and caring Personal Assistant/ Support Worker required to support my mother with Personal Care and general household duties
  • Assisting with shopping and occasionally going on trips to London

Other Requirements

  • "Exemption is claimed under the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9."
  • UK driving licence desirable but not essential
  • access to own vehicle desirable but not essential

Description

Typical duties

Domestic -       

Laundry, hanging out to dry, ironing, putting away

Loading and unloading the washing machine

Loading and unloading tumble dryer

Changing bed linen

Bed making

General cleaning

Taking out rubbish

General housework, including cleaning, dusting and vacuuming.

Minor household maintenance eg changing light bulbs, taking down curtains for washing

Preparing drinks, snacks and meals.

Shopping

Posting letters

Tidying

Cleaning toilet

Cleaning commode

 

Personal Care: 

Washing and bathing/showering – towelling dry/ drying hair

Help getting into and out of bath/shower as required

Assistance with applying cream

General hair/skin care

Using the toilet

Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings

Getting into bed

Assistance with medication i.e. helping to take tablets from foil/packets

Helping with other aspects of personal care as required, for example assisting employer to get changed at swimming pool/gym.

Getting in and out of the wheelchair

Mealtimes e.g. cutting up food, assistance to eat

Physiotherapy exercises

Social:   

  • Accompanying and assisting employer on shopping trips when required
  • Accompany employer when accessing social and leisure activities, including to swimming lessons, the gym
  • Accompanying employer to doctors/hospital appointments when required
  • Accompanying when clothes-buying, including help with un/dressing and lifting clothes on/off the rails.
  • Occasional longer journeys to London
  • Support in the kitchen

Person specification

The successful applicant will be: 

  • Female * due to personal care needs
  • Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality
  • Reliable with good time-keeping
  • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
  • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
  • Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Honest and cheerful
  • Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
  • Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom
  • Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
