Job Title:  Female Support Worker/Personal Care Assistant

Location:       Lancing       

Hourly rate:      £10.00 per hour, £7.50 per half hour shift

Hours/shifts:   3-6 hours per week split.  Days to be arranged.  Hours may need to be worked in one shift or split shift, mornings or afternoons, depending on the day so a lot of flexibility needed.  Additional hours may be offered. Also holiday cover will be needed. 


  • 83 year old Bulgarian lady who lives with her daughter in Lancing is looking for support with personal care, domestic tasks and accessing the community.  
  • She has little English so some knowledge of the Bulgarian language would be useful. 
  • She has Parkinsonism which affects her cognitive abilities and memory.
  • She also has mobility problems
  • She is very sociable and enjoys shopping and meeting friends and family.
  • Own car would be useful but not essential
  • You would report any concerns directly to the lady’s daughter who is the employer

Other Requirements

  • "Exemption is claimed under the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9."


All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check

Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.


Typical duties, not all these duties would be required every day

Domestic -       

  • Household tidying and polishing
  • Vacuuming and mopping floors
  • Kitchen, bathroom and toilet cleaning
  • Laundry and ironing
  • Routine and light maintenance of home and garden, keeping home areas free of trip hazards
  • Shopping and paying bills
  • Food and drink preparation


Personal Care: 

  • Assisting with getting up and going to bed
  • Showering/washing, general grooming
  • Dressing appropriately, undressing.
  • Toileting
  • Support to mobilise around the home
  • Encouragement and support with eating and drinking
  • Assistance with taking medication


  • Arranging appointments and supporting the lady to attend appointments
  • Pushing wheelchair
  • Own car to take the lady out would be useful but not essential
  • Writing letters, form filling, making phone calls
  • Supporting to attend focus groups, day centres, leisure activities, social clubs, meeting friends, to perform all civil functions
  • Support with social inclusion: to contact and meet family and friends, enjoy different interests e.g. shopping, walking.
  • Organising holidays
  • Daily support with remembering and practising certain skills and learn new skills in order to maintain independence as long as possible
  • Giving the lady choices/options and helping her to engage in different activities

Person specification

The successful applicant will be: 

  •  Female due to personal care needs
  • Be very flexible on days/times
  • Able to protect, prevent and provide service for a vulnerable, elderly person
  • Have a positive approach to problem solving
  • Able to work alone and within a team, considerate of others
  • Respectful of the client’s privacy and confidentiality
  • Reliable with good time-keeping
  • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
  • Hygienic and well organised
  • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
  • Patient and understanding
  • Honest and cheerful
  • A knowledge of Bulgarian language would be useful
  • Own car would be useful but not essential
  • Also able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
  • Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom
  • Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety
  • Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
