Summary

I am a 53 year old woman and wheelchair user living in my own home and looking to employ two Personal Care Assistants to better enable me to live independently.

I am an easy going bubbly person who enjoys shopping and accessing my local community. I have a daughter who is 20 years old and a cat.

I live in Burgess Hill not far from the train station and bus stops and within walking distance into the town centre.

Hours/Shifts

4 hours on a Friday

No smoking permitted on work premises or during working hours.

Must have a UK driving licence-Very minimal amount of driving or use of public transport

About the employer:

You will report directly to the employer who is a disabled person. 

Nature of the work:

To support and assist me to access my local community in a safe manner and in a way that maintains as much of my independence as possible. 

To assist me with general housework tasks as well as preparing drinks and meals.

To assist with some aspects of personal care as well as basic household tasks. 

Typical duties

Social Support 

  • Assisting me to access my local community
  • To drive me in my converted vehicle when required and ramping the wheelchair in and out of the car. (Training will be provided)
  • Occasionally to push me in my wheelchair when not using my powered wheelchair.

Home Activities

  • General light housework such as cleaning, hovering and dusting 
  • Preparing, cooking and servings meals, drinks and snacks.
  • Laundry, hanging out laundry, ironing and putting away
  • Changing bed linen
  • Washing up/loading dishwasher
  • Shopping for groceries
  • minor household maintenance such as changing lightbulbs, taking curtains down for washing etc

Personal Care Support

  • Assisting with washing hair and bathing
  • Helping me dress/undress
  • Assisting me to access the toilet
  • Plus any other related task that may be required. 

Person specification

  • Be able to undertake the full range of tasks 
  • Good communication and written skills with a good command of the English language.  Ability to demonstrate an attitude which supports personalisation – i.e. supporting me to exercise choice and control over my life, and enabling me to make decisions in all aspects of my life and home.
  • Ability to address issues of concern in a calm and professional manner with respect for appropriate workplace procedures
  • Be over 25 because of my car insurance
  • Not smoke at work
  • Be honest and able to respect privacy and confidentiality
  • Be able to carry out the full range of tasks to a high standard
  • Be cheerful, positive and confident at all times and to present a positive demeanor to others.  To be able to act appropriately in different social settings (e.g. visiting friends and family, at appointments, shopping, at the pub/cafe)
  • Be reliable and maintain good hygiene
  • Must have a current DBS check or be willing to have one completed;
  • A full driving licence (clean)

Training relevant to the job is desirable such as Food hygiene, First Aid etc although not essential.

A friendly, positive and common sense approach to the role along with the ability to learn is far more essential than previous experience. Full guidance from employer will be provided for all personal care tasks.
