Job Title: Live in Carer/Personal Care Assistant/ Support Worker

Hourly rate:  84 hours a week = £798/ £9.50 per hour

Hours/shifts: 1 week in 3- live in



I am a outgoing and kind hearted man, with a witty sense of humour.

I enjoy socialising with friends, going to the gym, Shooting and watching the football.


I am looking to recruit upbeat carers who are enthusiastic and support me to lead a normal life as possible.

Following an accident in 2007 I sustained a complete spinal cord dislocation at C4-C6 and was left with tetraplegia.


  • Live in Carer/Personal Care Assistant/Support Worker required to work for me living independently in own flat in Ifield.
  • Assistance required with all aspects of my daily life, including personal care, domestic tasks and accompanying me to social activities
  • I have a busy social life and am looking for friendly, outgoing carers who are able to support me with everything I need.

Other Requirements

  • "Exemption is claimed under the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9."
  • Must be comfortable with pets
  • Must have a UK driving licence



All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check

Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.


Typical duties

Domestic -       

Laundry, hanging out to dry, ironing, putting away

Loading and unloading the washing machine/ tumble dryer/washing line

Changing bed linen

Bed making

Taking out rubbish

General housework, including cleaning, dusting and vacuuming.

Minor household maintenance eg changing light bulbs, taking down curtains for washing

Preparing drinks, snacks and meals.


Maintenance of small garden, perhaps half an hour a week


Assistance with dog

Correspondence e.g. reading letters, help writing replies, form-filling, assisting with household paperwork

Making phone calls on my behalf when I am too unwell to do this

Making tea for the employer's guests


Personal Care: 

  • Washing and bathing/showering – towelling dry/ drying hair
  • Supervision and/or assistance with showering, drying, hair washing/ brushing as required
  • Help getting into and out of bath/shower as required
  • To be on call when employer takes bath
  • Assistance with applying cream
  • General hair/skin care
  • Catheter care
  • Using the toilet
  • Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings
  • Getting into bed
  • Assistance with getting out of bed using a hoist
  • Assistance with medication i.e. helping to take tablets from foil/packets
  • Helping with other aspects of personal care as required, for example assisting employer to get changed at swimming pool/gym/shooting.
  • Getting in and out of the wheelchair ('transferring')
  • Mealtimes e.g. cutting up food
  • Physiotherapy exercises – Stretches/standing frame/leg bike/hand cycle


  • Accompanying and assisting employer on shopping trips when required
  • Accompany employer when accessing social and leisure activities, including to swimming lessons, the gym, and karate.
  • Accompanying employer to doctors/hospital appointments when required
  • Accompanying when clothes-buying, including help with un/dressing and lifting clothes on/off the rails.
  • Occasional longer journeys
  • Accompanying on trips out
  • Driving and accompanying to social events
  • Accompanying to social meetings eg friends, family
  • The above duties will involve driving the employer in his car, lifting the folding wheelchair in/out of car, pushing the employer’s wheelchair when out.

Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
