If you do this this job could be perfect for you! • I am an 18-year-old man, with cerebral palsy looking for a support worker so I can gain some independence.• I need support with accessing College and Leisure activities.• I require a support worker to take me to Chichester college once a week and support me in my course. • The work will also involve accompanying and supporting me to watch Brighton and Hove Albion football club play at their home stadium.• Support will also be needed to access activities such as; shopping trips, meeting friends in the pub, gaming and enjoying a variety of different leisure activities. • I require a driver and can provide a Motability car for when we go out. • I use a wheelchair to get around and currently need help to access my bedroom and bathroom when in my home environment. Other Requirements • "Exemption is claimed under the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9." • Non-smoker preferred or someone who is willing to refrain from smoking during work hours.• Must have a UK driving licence and be comfortable with driving my car. DescriptionTypical duties Domestic – Help with putting away and taking out clothes.Preparing drinks, snacks and meals.ShoppingAssist with cleaning and feeding a Gecko – employer would help.Support during college lessons/note taking when needed. Personal Care: • Help getting into and out of bath/shower as required.• Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons, fastenings and shoes• Helping with other aspects of personal care as required, for example assisting employer to get changed at swimming pool/gym. • Getting in and out of the wheelchair ('transferring') • Physiotherapy exercises Social: • Accompanying and assisting employer on shopping trips when required• Accessing public transport (trains/busses)• Accompany employer when accessing social and leisure activities, including going to football matches.• Accompanying employer to doctors/hospital appointments when required• Accompanying when clothes-buying, including help with un/dressing and lifting clothes on/off the rails.• Driving and accompanying to social events such as; Football, Cinema and College• Evening meetings with friends in Pub/Club• Accompanying to social meetings eg friends, family.• The above duties will involve driving the employer in his car, lifting the folding wheelchair in/out of car, pushing the employer’s wheelchair when out.Person specificationThe successful applicant will be: • Male due to personal care needs • Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality• Reliable with good time-keeping• Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative• Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised• Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties• Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills• Honest and cheerful• Creative• Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard• Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom• Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & SafetyPrevious experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common-sense approach to these roles.
