Job Title: Male* Support Worker

Location: Littlehampton

Hourly rate: £10.00 per hour Monday-Saturday £12.00 per hour Sunday

Hours/shifts: 4 hours per week

 

Alternating between a Sunday’s shift (9.30am-1.30pm or 5pm-9pm) and an evening or weekend shift. Time/day can be arranged by mutual agreement.

 

Summary

  • Male Support Worker/Carer required to provide support for a 24 year man who has Atypical Autism.
  • The support worker is required to provide support so that the young man can attend church two times a month.
  • The Support Worker is needed to help and prompt the young man plan and organise his personal and domestic activities of daily living.
  • Support is also needed to help the young man access social situations, as he is keen to make friends but struggles with the complexities of social interaction.
  • The young man has many interests including Formula one, rugby, astronomy, science, music and sound engineering. He is helpful, friendly, likes to chat, and is sociable. He enjoys company.
  • Ideally the Support worker will have experience of autism and the challenges it can pose.
  • The young man responds well to humour and a gentle but persistent approach.
  • The employer will be the young man’s parents.

Typical duties                             

Domestic:       

Prompting to:

  • Complete food preparation, washing up, tidying of food preparation area
  • Ensure that he clears up any untidiness or mess that is created by activities or actions (e.g. mud on the floor, spilling of food)

Personal Care: 

Prompting to:

  • Complete personal hygiene activities – washing body and hair, shaving, applying deodorant.
  • Wear clean clothes, wear suitable clothing (weather and context appropriate).

Social:   

  • Accompanying to church, supporting employer’s son in appropriate social interaction.
  • Accompanying to access the community e.g. participating in fun and leisure activities.

The successful applicant will be: 

Male support worker required

Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
