Job Title: Male Social Buddy

Hourly rate:   £9  and 40p per mile when using own vehicle

Hours/shifts: up to 4 hours after school 1-2 days per week
I am looking for someone to support my 14yr old son who has Down Syndrome. He is a very active and cheeky boy who just loves to have fun. He loves sports, particularly Basketball and Football and ideally would like someone to join in. I would require you to collect him from school and take him out for a few hours after so a driver’s license and access to your own vehicle is essential for the role. Being a cheeky boy, he will need constant supervision to ensure his safety as he has been known to wander off on occasion. It would be great if you would could have similar interests and support him in increasing his independence. Flexibility is important as the hours may adapt and change depending on my son’s needs. He is incredibly fun to be around so I feel this will be a really enjoyable role.

Other Requirements

• Must have a UK driving licence

Typical duties
Personal Care:  
• Assisting and supervising my son whilst swimming and in changing rooms
• Taking my son to social and leisure activities, including to swimming or to play sports
• Possible longer journeys on occasion
• Driving and accompanying to social events
• The above duties will involve driving my son in the PA’s car
• To supervise my son at all times and ensure his safety.
• To encourage my son and increase his independence

Person specification
The successful applicant will be:  
• Male * due to personal care needs 
• Reliable with good time-keeping
• Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
• Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised
• Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
• Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills
• Honest and cheerful and generally be a fun person
• To be flexible in regards to hours
• Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
• Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom
• Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety
Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
