Your July 2019 Children & Young People e-newsletter Disability Pride 2019 On Sunday 14 July, England’s first ever Disability Pride event is back for a third year. The 2019 celebration will take place on Sunday 14th July 2019 on Hove Lawns from 12:00 to 18:00. The event has been organised to raise awareness of the diversity and value of disabled people with all (visible and invisible) impairments or conditions and is organised by a diverse Committee of disabled people. Throughout the day, there will be live music, acts, performances, and speeches from disabled people; work from disabled artists; activities, and stalls from organisations who offer support to local people and families, friends, and carers who are part of this diverse community. Changing Places toilets coming to the NHS The Department of Health and Social Care has announced a £2 million fund to install more Changing Places in NHS hospitals. Changing Places toilets are incredibly important, as they contain specialist equipment, such as hoists and changing benches, but also provide a safe environment for disabled people who require assistance. There are around 1,200 Changing Places toilets in the UK but only 30-40 of these are in NHS hospitals, so this news is very welcome.
