Work in social care Working as a Personal Assistant Night Support Worker DP3675a Job Title: Personal Care Assistant Location: Worthing Hourly rate: £13 per hour Reference: DP3675 Hours/shifts: 5 hours available per week Summary Personal Care Assistant(s)/ Carer(s) required to help an 18 year old man with Duchenne muscular dystrophy go to bed in Findon Valley The role involves helping him go to bed 5 nights a week. This usually takes around 60 minutes and includes hoisting using a ceiling track, changing into night clothes, helping him go to the loo, settling him into bed, giving him his medication and fitting his non-invasive ventilation mask. Hours are 22.00 to 23.00, Monday to Friday. We appreciate that this is a late call-out, so please contact us if you could do some nights - we are happy to consider more than one person in the role. Our son is easygoing, has a good sense of humour and is very able to communicate his needs. Experience of working with young people who have physical disabilities would be an advantage but is not essential, as training can be given. There will be a probationary period of six months, after which successful candidates will be issued employment contracts and be entitled to holiday pay. Description Typical duties Domestic - He usually showers in the morning, but this is included in case he needs a shower at night: Washing and showering (using shower chair)– towelling dry/ drying hair Assistance with showering, drying, hair washing/ brushing as required Help getting into and out of shower as required General hair/skin care Using the toilet (urine bottle and Clos-o-mat) Dressing and undressing Getting into bed using a ceiling track hoist and sling Assistance with medication i.e. helping to take tablets from foil/packets and transjection pen (training provided) Fitting non-invasive ventilation (BiPAP) Person specification The successful applicant will be: Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality Reliable with good time-keeping Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills Honest and cheerful Creative Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
