Hours/shifts: 3 hours on a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoons and 3 hours on a weekend afternoon. Days can be flexible.

Summary
• I am a 37 year old man with Asperger’s Syndrome living in my own apartment, looking to employ a Personal and Social support Assistant.
• I need assistance some general day to day tasks and getting out in to the local community.
• Much of the support I will need will be to encourage me to become more independent and confident to carry out daily living skills and develop my social skills. This would include supporting me to use social networking sites.
• I will also need support to maintain my mental and physical wellbeing. I would like someone who could accompany me to go on days out, to the gym and support me to develop new skills. I enjoy swimming and I would like to find someone with an interest in sports and keeping fit.
• Cooking skills are also desirable too.
• Successful candidates would accompany me to the David Lloyd Health Club as my Mentor.

Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.

Description
To encourage and support me to improve my daily living skills, social skills and to maintain a general wellbeing. Also, to support and assist me to become more independent and confident. Challenging me to learn and develop new skills.

Typical duties
Domestic -
Work together to establish a training routine to become fully capable of tasks such as:
Support with achieving objectives
To be able to manage budgeting and dealing with written correspondence, when required.
Support with tidying and general housework and encourage me to become more independent with general household tasks.
To plan and shop for weekly needs
Develop cooking skills to cook vegetarian meals

Personal Care:
Provide support to cope with unexpected changes in routine
To work towards establishing a structured day time and night time sleep pattern

Social:
Support to cope with anxiety
To make and maintain friendships via social groups and internet sites
To maintain a good relationship with parents
To participate in leisure and social activities of choice. e.g. swimming, cycling, gym, etc
To participate in playing games such as chess
To help with time management
To support me to attend appointments when required.

Person specification
The successful applicant will be:

MUST have proven experience in providing support with the job requirements.
Experience of supporting adults with Asperger’s or who are on the Autistic Spectrum is preferred but this is not as essential as being calm, patient and willing to learn. Training can be provided.
