Job Title: Personal Assistant (care)
Location: Forest Row, East Sussex
Hourly rate: £12 per hour depending on experience
Reference: PC178
Hours/shifts: Negotiable but preferably on Monday and Friday (4 hours per day either am or pm)

I am a 59 year old woman living with Multiple disabilities. I have an inflammatory arthritis of the hands and wrists, and I am also immune deficient (I do not make antibodies). I have a good sense of humour, and remain highly motivated and strive to stay active, and live independently.

I am seeking an empathetic and experienced individual to provide some additional shifts to support me, as part of a small team, to continue to live independently at my home in Forest Row. The key focus of the role is to support me to live as independently as possible. I am living with a rare neurological condition that has left me with a number disabilities. These include: walking, co-ordination and balance problems, some muscle weakness, and abnormal fatigue. In terms of impact on activities of daily living I often say my condition is similar to that of someone living with advanced multiple sclerosis. Because of my condition and treatment I have a weakened immune system, and my ability to fight infection is heavily impaired. This means I’m at increased risk of infection. Avoiding infection is, therefore, really important. Training will be provided on Infection prevention and control.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Everyday cooking and meal preparation. Ensuring requirements for strict food hygiene are observed at all times.

2. Helping me manage my immediate environment, ensuring that I have all the essentials to hand, particularly my bedroom, the bathrooms and kitchen.

3. Supporting me with tasks around the house such as cleaning, stock control, maintaining equipment (eg mobility aids), and laundry. Ensuring requirements for strict infection prevention and control are observed at all times.

4. Supporting with physical activities. Helping me get out and about, including into the garden. Helping select the right equipment/aids, such as car and wheelchair, or on my scooter with walking aid, or wheelchair and walking aid, or just with walking aid.

5. Supporting me with my mobility as needed. Making sure my rollators, crutches, sticks, and wheelchair are clean and to hand, and helping me with transfers if necessary. Being aware of mobility exercises set by physiotherapists, and encouraging me to do these.

6. Supporting my healthcare needs, such as dropping off and collecting prescriptions, helping me access the GP, helping me get ready for hospital appointments and treatments, supporting hospital admissions, and emergency admissions, if necessary; calling an ambulance, alerting lifeline, and alerting my family.

7. Supporting me during admissions to hospital. Managing the house in my absence, coordinating ‘hospital runs’ to deal with laundry, and ensure my nutritional needs are met.
