Job Title: Personal Assistant/Support Worker

Hourly rate: £8.50 per hour to be increased to £9.00 when training completed

Hours/shifts: Monday 10am - 3pm, Tuesday 10am – 3pm and Saturday 9am – 2pm

Possible job share – to be discussed at interview

Summary

 

  • Personal assistant required to join a team supporting a young male adult with special needs.
  • This will involve working with him at home but more importantly out in the community enjoying life.
  • Planned activities include shopping, swimming, bowling, music and sensory sessions as well as trips to local points of interest.
  • Must be confident in the swimming pool
  • All aspects of personal care required.

Other Requirements

Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.

Description

Typical duties

Domestic -      

Changing bed linen

Bed making

General cleaning

Taking out rubbish

General housework, including cleaning, dusting and vacuuming.

Preparing drinks, snacks and meals.

Shopping

Tidying

 

Personal Care:  

Washing and bathing/showering – towelling dry/ drying hair

 

Help getting into and out of bath/shower as required

Assistance with applying cream

General hair/skin care

Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings

Getting into bed

Assistance with getting out of bed using a hoist

Help with dispensing tablets 

Helping with other aspects of personal care as required, for example assisting employer to get changed in swimming pool/gym.

Getting in and out of the wheelchair ('transferring')

Mealtimes e.g. cutting up food, assistance to eat

 

Social:            

Accompanying and assisting client on shopping trips when required

Accompany client when accessing social and leisure activities

Accompanying client to doctors/hospital appointments when required

Occasional longer journeys

Accompanying on trips out

Driving and accompanying to social events such as:

Cinema

Evening meetings

Accompanying on trips out

Accompanying to social meetings

The above duties will involve driving the client in their car using lift to get in/out of car, pushing the client wheelchair when out. 

Pushing the employer’s manual wheelchair when out.

The successful applicant will be:

Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
