Job Title: Personal assistant

Hourly rate: daytime £9/ waking night £12.50

Tues/Thurs to shadow with a view to working 3 other nights a week
Sunday 9.30am – 7.30pm/Night shifts run from 10pm – 7am.

Some flexibility during school holidays, with extra shifts sometimes between the hrs of 8am – 7.30pm by arrangement (maybe a split shift during that time)

• I am a 19 year old man looking for support overnight and during the day
• I am cheeky chap and have a great sense of humor
• I am 1:1 and 2:1 at times (parent or other carer)
• I need support with accessing Social and Leisure activities
• I may require support and accompaniment to medical or other appointments
• I need you to spoon feed me, and help me take my epilepsy medication
• I need help with personal care
• Hourly rate £9 per hour or £12.50 waking nights
• This is a short term contract until I go to residential college in September. Though I do require help for 4 weeks a year when I am home if you are interested for the next college year during college holidays
• I use a wheelchair, but I can also walk indoors, I require some help for balance when walking
• I am non verbal but I understand, and I have a few signs and can communicate, it takes a little while, but you will understand me quite quickly
• I have some challenging behaviour and can pinch, pull hair (please tie up long hair), but I also headbang and knee myself in my face. My mum will give you training on how best to deal with these behaviours

Typical duties

Laundry, hanging out to dry, ironing, putting away
Helping with laundry, washing and drying
Loading and unloading the washing machine
Loading and unloading tumble dryer/washing line
Changing bed linen
Bed making
General cleaning
Taking out rubbish
Preparing drinks, snacks and meals.

Personal Care:
• Supervision and/or assistance with showering, drying, hair washing/ brushing as required
• Help getting into and out of the shower as required
• Assistance with applying cream
• Using the toilet
• Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings
• Getting into bed
• Help with dispensing tablets
• Helping with other aspects of personal care as required, for example assisting employer to get changed at swimming pool/gym.
• Getting in and out of the wheelchair ('transferring')
• Mealtimes e.g. cutting up food, assistance to eat

• Accompany employer when accessing social and leisure activities
• Accompanying employer to doctors/hospital appointments when required
• Accompanying when shopping,
• Occasional longer journeys
• Accompanying on trips out e.g. to see family.
• Accompanying to social events such as:
• Accompanying on trips out e.g. to take photographs at the beach or in the woods or, visiting friends.
• Accompanying on trips out eg to the garden centre, beach, craft fairs, local visits, attending social events, attending therapies and disability group
• Accompanying to social meetings eg friends, family
• The above duties will involve pushing the employer’s wheelchair when out.
• Whilst on duty at the employer’s home watching TV and assisting with craft activities
• Lifting the folding wheelchair in/out of car, pushing the employer’s manual wheelchair when out.

Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
