Job Title: Personal Assistant
Location: Barnham, Bognor Regis
Hourly rate: £9.00, increasing after successful completion of probation period

Hours/shifts: 2.5 hours a day 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (between 15:15 – 17:45) with the possibility of more hours occasionally at school holidays.

I am the Mother of an 8 year old girl with Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy who uses a wheelchair full time. I am looking for a kind and cheerful non-smoking PA (this is due to medical reasons) to provide care in my home and occasionally take my daughter out socially.

It is imperative that you enjoy being around, interacting with and motivating young children as much of this role includes engaging my daughter in play and fun and stimulating activities. You should have previous experience of working with children with disabilities and a basic understanding of Epilepsy, with the confidence to be reactive and administer First Aid as required. Full training will be provided.

The role also involves personal care tasks including toileting and dressing, feeding and meal preparation, assisting with transferring in and out of a wheelchair, occasionally administering medication and generally helping my daughter to do the things she cannot do independently.

Other Requirements
• Must have a UK driving licence
• Must have access to own vehicle

Typical duties

• Preparing drinks, snacks and meals
• Washing up/loading dishwasher/drying up
• Cleaning up after any toileting accidents
• Tidying toys and equipment away after play/use
• Keeping child’s environment tidy and free of any hazards
• Support child to do homework

Personal Care:
• Assisting using the toilet and wiping
• Assisting with washing and bathing/showering – towelling dry/ drying hair
• Assisting with applying cream
• General hair/skin care
• Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings
• Getting in and out of bed
• Administering medication as required, i.e. Epi-pen
• Getting in and out of wheelchair ('transferring')
• Mealtimes e.g. cutting up food, assistance to eat

• Pick my daughter up from school and walk her home (just a few minutes walk from the school)
• Engaging child in play and fun and stimulating activities at home, such as games, arts and crafts
• Accompanying child to access social and leisure activities as required outside of the home, such as swimming lessons
• Pushing the child’s wheelchair when out
• The above duties will involve driving the child in the PA’s own car where applicable to include transferring, lifting, folding wheelchair in/out of car
• Ensuring child’s safety at all times, administering First Aid as required
• Any other reasonable tasks as required
