Hours/shifts: Cover PA, adhoc hours to cover holiday/sickness times

Summary:

My son is a pleasant and happy young adult. His likes include sports and IT. He prefers his usual routines, familiar people and places. His dislikes include things that overloading his senses, e.g. loud noises, lights, smells or crowds.

This role is to continue to support my son with daily tasks and gaining more independence. These include:
- Daily living skills e.g. simple cooking, cleaning
- Safety practices e.g. adapting ways to overcome difficulties such as encouraging Sensory Diet
- Accessing social and activities out in the community, he loves sports.
- Travel training – building confidence and working out calming strategies
- Structure and stability - supporting to create timetables and structure his day
- Develop calming strategies to help manage his emotions.

It’s important that applicants have some awareness of Autism and language disorders and are happy to use a multimedia approach to communicating e.g. Makaton, using phone emoji etc.

Induction and training will be given to support the successful candidate in their role. Training courses and certificate will be offered.

Other Requirements:
All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check
Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.

Description - Typical duties

Domestic:
Supervise, assist and encourage my son with:
- Creating timetables and structuring his day
- Simple cooking, cleaning e.g. tidy and clean his room, make his bed

Personal Care:
Supervise, assist and encourage my son with:
- Mealtimes e.g. cutting up food, assistance to eat
- Personal care e.g. washing and dying
- Shaving
- Help him put his socks and shoes on after swimming
- Help him turn his clothes the right way if are inside out

Social:
Accompany and assist my son to:
- Access the community for activities and sports
- Shop for some groceries
- Develop calming strategies to manage emotional/uncomfortable situations
- Be safe aware in and away from the home
- Travel training – building confidence and working out calming strategies


Other:

- My son can present with some challenging behaviours when in situations he is uncomfortable with. The PA should recognise the signs of this developing and take appropriate actions to assist Mathew to manage these situations and his emotions.
- Any other reasonable tasks requested.

Person specification
The successful applicant will be:
