Summary • I am looking for a creative and fun PA to be a buddy for my 10 year old son with Autism and ADHD, to get out of the house, access the community and enjoy some time away from the family. • He would like someone to go swimming and bike riding with and someone who is happy to spend time with him at the beach and play with his remote control cars. • My son can becomes anxious when he goes out; he doesn’t like crowded spaces and finds unexpected and loud noises difficult to cope with. With the right support to help him manage this, he would like to try out new experiences in the future.• My son is blind in one eye and has type 1 diabetes, which he manages himself but he will require someone to check for signs of low blood sugar levels and assist him if needed. • My son is cheeky, funny and imaginative and is looking for someone he can relate to.• You must be consistently reliable as this helps alleviate his anxieties.• Experience of working with people with Autism and ADHD would be beneficial but is not essential. DescriptionTypical duties Personal Care: • Accompany my son when he needs to access the toilet as he doesn’t like going in on his own. • Assist him with managing his diabetes, including helping to calculate carb ratios and on occasions, potentially administer Insulin. Social: • Accompanying him when accessing social and leisure activities, including swimming, bike rides, going to the beach and the cinema.• Some of the above duties will involve driving him in your own car. Person specificationThe successful applicant will be: • Well organised and able to maintain professional standards and confidentiality.• Male due to Personal Care needs• Consistently punctual, reliable and trustworthy.• Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative• Some experience or knowledge of type 1 diabetes is preferred but not essential as training can be provided.• Have a good understanding Autism and ADHD or be willing to learn.• Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties• Patient and possess excellent listening skills, to help him manage his anxieties and behaviour.• Honest, creative and fun• Be a good role model• Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom• Have a full, clean driving license with use of a car Please note, if you are successful in your application for this role you will be employed through the individual employer and not Independent Lives.
