Work in social care Working as a Personal Assistant Personal Assistant SG1530 Job Title: Personal Assistant Location: Emsworth Hourly rate: £10.40 Reference: SG1530 Hours/shifts: 10.5 hours per week to be used flexibly – can be discussed at interview Summary A young man with autism is looking for support from a Personal Assistant The ideal person needs to be patient and take time to get to know him, having experience with autism would be desirable Subtle prompting to ensure personal care needs are being met including showering, taking medication and having regular meals Supporting and empowering him to make important phone calls e.g. to the doctor Assisting in accessing the community, such as the gym Other Requirements All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check. Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts. Description Typical duties Domestic - May require prompting with domestic duties such as: Laundry Changing bed linen General cleaning and housework/tidying Correspondence e.g. reading letters, help writing replies, form-filling, assisting with household paperwork Personal Care: May require prompting to ensure good personal cleanliness such as showering and teeth cleaning. Social: Supporting with all types of communication for the employer Accompanying and assisting employer on shopping trips when required Accompany employer when accessing social and leisure activities, such as the gym Regular walking and talking Accompanying and supporting employer to doctors/hospital appointments when required Driving and accompanying to activities such as support groups The above duties may involve driving the employer in the PA’s car Person specification The successful applicant will be: Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality Reliable with excellent time-keeping Able to use own initiative to guide employer to make decisions, suggesting but not forcing ideas Good at talking through problems/problem solving Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills Honest and straightforward Able to speak and read English to an excellent standard Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety Previous experience, either personal or professional, with people on the autistic spectrum is preferred.
