Hours/shifts: Monday 10.00-1400 and Friday 10.00-1300

• Purpose of the post: To enable me to enjoy as independent life as possible at home and when out and about.
• Background: I am a middle-aged male trying to live life to the full. I have a great sense of humour and pursue a variety of interests.
• I am currently enjoying studying with the Open University. I enjoy Photography when I can get out and about and I also love gardening and attempt to grow plants on my patio.
• I have Cerebral Palsy and other health conditions which impact on my speech, coordination, walking and energy levels.
• I am seeking help with mainly domestic duties, with possible trips out to cafes etc. Help will be required when communicating with others, especially over the phone, along with cooking, cleaning, carrying of food/drink when out, and support when experiencing over tiredness, chronic fatigue, and stress. No personal care is needed.
• I am looking for a PA who has a keen sense of humour, is open minded, non-judgmental and has an awareness of Disability issues. It would be advantageous if they are sensitive to the ableist views prevalent in our society and are keen to be a good ally in their work. Attitude toward the work and individuals with a disability is seen as priority over skills, it is my view that skills can be taught attitude cannot.
• Further prerequisites for this role are a willingness to learn about my conditions and how they affect me and the flexibility to respond to the impact of a fluctuating health pattern appropriately. Excellent time keeping, organisation and communication skills are a must, as is the understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
• How I am treated in the outside world is different from how I am in my home, which is sanctuary from other attitudes that disabled people are expected to live by. Anyone entering my home will need to accept this and respect it.

Other Requirements
• Must be comfortable with pets
• Non-smoker preferred or someone who is willing to refrain from smoking during work hours.
• Must have a UK driving licence
• Must be willing to drive me in my mobility vehicle

Typical duties
Domestic -
Laundry, hanging out to dry, ironing, putting away
Helping with laundry, washing and drying
Loading and unloading the washing machine
Loading and unloading tumble dryer/washing line
Changing bed linen
Bed making
General cleaning
Taking out rubbish
General housework, including cleaning, dusting and vacuuming.
Minor household maintenance eg changing light bulbs, taking down curtains for washing
Preparing drinks, snacks and meals.
Maintenance of small garden, perhaps half an hour a week
Correspondence e.g. reading letters, help writing replies, form-filling, assisting with household paperwork
Making phone calls on my behalf as speaking is difficult for me
Making tea for the employer's guests

• Accompanying and assisting employer on shopping trips when required.
• Accompany employer when accessing social and leisure activities. For example; pursuing my hobby of photography, going on walks along the beach/park, visiting coffee shops, visiting antique shops and markets.
• Accompanying employer to doctors/hospital appointments when required
• Occasional longer journeys/trips out.
• The above duties will involve driving the employer’s mobility vehicle, lifting walking aid in/out of car.
• Whilst on duty at the employer's home watching TV and assisting with craft activities.
• Assisting me with my open university degree in mental health and psychology.

Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common-sense approach to these roles.
