Work in social care Working as a Personal Assistant Personal Assistant VC6721 Job Title: Personal Assistant Location: Burgess Hill Hourly rate: £10.00/hour Reference: VC6721 Hours/shifts: Up to 31 ½ hours available, to be worked by 2 or more PA’s – Job Share MORNINGS - Mon, Tues, Thur, Fri – 7.00-8.30am, Wed – 7.00–9.00am, Sat, Sun – 7.00–8.00 am (total 10 hours) Mon-Tues – 10.30-2.00pm (total 6 hours) EVENINGS - Mon-Sun – 9.00-10.00pm (total 7 hours) Plus additional larger shifts across the month to be mutually agreed (flexibility essential) Summary: I am a retired man with Parkinson’s Disease which has impacted on my everyday living. I am looking for kind and reliable Personal Assistants to support me in my own home with personal care tasks, preparing meals and snacks, medication prompts, some light domestic tasks and occasionally accompanying me out and about. You must be kind, empathetic and motivating and also be comfortable with small dogs and working in a smoking environment. Knowledge and experience of working with somebody who has Parkinson’s would be preferred; however this is not essential as a kind and common sense approach to this role is most important. Any required training will be provided. Description Typical duties Domestic - Preparing drinks, snacks and meals Washing, laundry, hanging out to dry, ironing, putting away Loading and unloading the washing machine Loading and unloading tumble dryer/washing line Bed making Changing bed linen Tidying Taking out rubbish General housework, including cleaning, dusting and vacuuming. Personal Care: Washing and bathing/showering Supervision and/or assistance with showering, drying, hair washing/ brushing as required Help getting into and out of bath/shower as required To be on call when employer takes bath Assistance with applying cream General hair/skin care Assistance changing incontinence pads Using the toilet Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings Getting out of and into bed Assistance with getting out of/into bed Help with dispensing tablets Assistance with medication i.e. helping to take tablets from foil/packets Helping with other aspects of personal care as required Getting in and out of the wheelchair ('transferring') Mealtimes e.g. cutting up food, assistance to eat Physiotherapy exercises Social: Accompanying and assisting employer on shopping trips when required Accompany employer when accessing social and leisure activities and when visiting friends/family Accompanying employer to doctors/hospital appointments when required Accompanying when clothes-buying, including help with un/dressing and lifting clothes on/off the rails. Occasional longer journeys The above duties may involve driving the employer in the PA’s car, lifting the folding wheelchair in/out of car, pushing the employer’s wheelchair when out. Whilst on duty at the employer’s home watching TV and assisting with leisure activities Lifting the folding wheelchair in/out of car, pushing the employer’s manual wheelchair when out. Person specification The successful applicant will be: Able to tolerate the employer smoking in the work place Comfortable with dogs Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality Reliable with good time-keeping Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills Honest and cheerful Creative Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
