Work in social care Working as a Personal Assistant Personal Assistant VC6730 Job Title: Personal Assistant (PA) Location: Goring-By-Sea Hourly rate: £8.75 per hour Reference: VC6730 Hours/shifts: Flexible weekly hours after School, occasional weekends & during School Holidays (to be discussed and mutually agreed at interview) Summary: I am the Mother of a 10 year old non-speaking boy with Autism. He is a happy and tactile child who likes to keep busy and enjoys going out and about. I am looking for a reliable, friendly, caring and approachable Personal Assistant to take my son out socially so he can access leisure activities independently of me. He enjoys visiting Garden Centres, going swimming, to the park and to Soft Play Centres. You will be required to care for him whilst taking him on such outings ensuring his safety at all times. Assistance will be needed with personal care tasks and feeding. You should be patient and confident communicating with a child with special needs. Experience of working with similar children would be preferred, but not essential as full training will be provided. Other Requirements A UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle desirable All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts. Description Typical duties Personal Care: Assistance using the toilet and wiping Assistance with washing/drying Assistance with dressing and undressing Assistance accessing drinks, snacks and meals Social: Accompanying child to access social and leisure activities as required outside of the home, such as swimming, going to the Park and Soft Play, visiting Garden Centres Engaging child in play and fun and stimulating activities The above duties will involve driving the child in the PA’s own car where applicable (Mileage expenses will be paid) Ensuring child’s safety at all times, administering First Aid as required Any other reasonable tasks as required Person specification The successful applicant will be: Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality Reliable with good time-keeping Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills Honest and cheerful Creative Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
