NB: These timings could be altered slightly to suit right candidate

Occasional ad hoc hours or Holiday cover may be requested at other times of the week


I am looking for one or more Personal Assistants to provide support to my elderly Father so that he can remain independent within his own home.

Gregarious and friendly, he enjoys watching birds in the garden, doing the crossword, writing letters and chatting to visitors over a cup of tea.

He is very appreciative of the help he receives, although is used to being independent and can sometimes play down his real need for support, as he doesn’t like to cause a fuss.

The key focus of this role will be to discreetly assist him, providing companionship and reassurance whilst promoting his independence, comfort and well-being and ensuring his dignity and safety are maintained at all times.

Tasks will include prompting him to take his medication, providing light meals, and undertaking general household duties.

Applicants should be friendly, kind and honest with a cheerful disposition, as well as discreet and respectful of my Father’s dignity and privacy with the skills to gently encourage and prompt him to do things as required.

Other Requirements 

• Employees will not be permitted to smoke in the workplace or during the time they are being paid
• UK driving licence and access to own vehicle preferable
• All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check
• All applicants must be willing to have both Covid-19 vaccinations if application is successful
Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts

Typical duties
Make and serve breakfast, lunch or early supper
Preparing drinks
Changing bed linen
Bed making and preparing hot water bottles
Small amount of general housework/laundry
Collect weekly medication, if required
Keep kitchen clean and tidy
Plus any other related tasks as required

Personal Care
Prompting medication and providing support with inhalers (training will be provided)
Empty night time commode in the morning (no further toileting assistance required)
Laying out clean clothes
Prompting to brush hair and shave
Plus any other related tasks as required.

Additional Information

There may be times where you will be asked to provide occasional holiday or sickness cover at other times in the week

Person specification
The successful applicant will be: 
Discreet and respectful of privacy and confidentiality
Reliable with good timekeeping
Kind, patient and good humoured with excellent interpersonal skills
Able to put together nicely presented meals or snacks to tempt a poor appetite
Honest and cheerful
Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative and anticipate any ad hoc support needs
Able to speak and read English to a good standard
Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom
Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety, including compliance with social distancing and health guidelines on Covid-19
All applicants must be willing to have both Covid-19 vaccinations if application is successful
Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties

Previous experience preferred but this is not as important as a common sense approach to the role.
