Summary Our cheeky chappie would like someone to come and care for him on the hours above. There is the potential for extra ad hoc hours for appointments and during school holidays. DescriptionDuties will include playing, reading stories and attending to medical and primary care needs. Full training & support will be given in hoisting, use of gastrostomy, suctioning, drawing up and administering medications & emergency protocols.Typical duties Domestic - Helping with laundry, washing and drying Loading and unloading tumble dryer/washing lineChanging bed linenBed makingTaking out rubbishPreparing drinks, snacks and meals.Tidying Personal Care: • Washing and bathing/showering – towelling dry/ drying hair• Supervision and/or assistance with showering, drying, hair washing/ brushing as required• Help getting into and out of bath/shower as required• Assistance with applying cream• General hair/skin care• Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings• Getting into bed• Assistance with getting out of bed using a hoist• Assistance with medication i.e. helping to take tablets from foil/packets• Helping with other aspects of personal care as required, for example assisting employer to get changed at swimming pool/gym. • Getting in and out of the wheelchair ('transferring') • Mealtimes e.g. cutting up food, assistance to eat• Physiotherapy exercises Social: • Accompany employer when accessing social and leisure activities, including to swimming lessons, the gym, and karate. • Accompanying employer to doctors/hospital appointments when required• Occasional longer journeys• Accompanying on trips out e.g. to the library, the vet, meditation classes, yoga for people with ME, to see family. • Driving and accompanying to social events such as:• Cinema• Accompanying on trips out e.g. to take photographs at the beach or in the woods or, visiting friends.• Accompanying on trips out eg to the garden centre, beach, cinema, craft fairs, local visits, out shopping for fun, attending social events, attending therapies and disability group • Accompanying to social meetings eg friends, family The successful applicant will be: Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentialityReliable with good time-keepingAble to both follow instructions and work on own initiativeHygienic, tidy minded and well organisedFit and healthy to undertake the required dutiesPatience and possess excellent interpersonal skillsHonest and cheerfulCreativeAble to speak and read English to a reasonable standardLegally permitted to work in the United KingdomAble to work at all times to high standards of Health & SafetyPrevious experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
