Work in social care Working as a Personal Assistant Personal Assistant/Support Worker HCC1131 Job Title: Personal Assistant/Support Worker Location: Chandlers Ford Hourly rate: £9.50 to 10.50 p/h depending on experience Reference: HCC1131 Hours/shifts: Fridays: 10 am to 2.30 or 3 pm & Sundays: 11 am to 3 pm (applicants must be able to commit to both days) Part time PA required to support a mature, disabled gentleman Initially, I can come across as a quiet person and just need a little time to get engaged in a conversation. I am very dry witted, I’ve got a collective range of interests and I enjoy getting out and about. I class myself as a frustrated “gypsy”. Due to my disability I have restricted mobility, use an electric wheel chair and slight speech impairment. This position is for a part timer support worker to join an existing small team and to provide the following general support: (no personal care required) Assistance to attend appointments, social/leisure events and activities including medical appointments, visiting friends/family/attend social events. It involves driving me in the PA’s car and/or to assist using public transport where possible. (employee’s car must be insured for business purpose and mileage will be reimbursed at £0.45/m) Assistance with making/taking phone calls, book appointments, write letters/forms, deal with and file household paperwork To assist me to access/respond my emails and to assist me to access information online, fill in online forms/assessments To assist researching new activities, help with making enquiries about costs, accessibility, travel arrangements To cook fresh meals according to dietary needs; guidance/training will be given To cover holidays of other staff(where possible) To help having a shave Other duties To build a trusting relationship, provide companionship and motivational support when needed QUALITIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Formal experience of supporting people with disabilities not essential (Informal experience such as supporting family member/friends/volunteering an advantage) Plenty of common sense experience essential and general knowledge of supporting a person with speech impairment welcome Well organised, reliable, committed, good time-keeping, Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and with the ability to follow instructions well and ability to speak and read English to a reasonable standard A general interest in Art, photography welcome Must have clean driving licence and have access to own vehicle Outgoing, friendly without being too overpowering Patience, trustworthy, honest and cheerful Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check. Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts. Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to this role.
