Summary

  • PA/Support Worker required to support my  year old son who has autism, and some mobility issues.
  • Duties include some personal care, and engaging my son in various activities in the community that he enjoys and keeping him safe.
  • Experience of dealing with children with autism is essential, along with the ability to use visuals, Makaton signing, team teach restraint, driving licence and own car.
  • Applications considered on a job share basis. 

Hours/Shifts

5 hours every other weekend  either Saturday or Sunday

Plus 8 hours pw in the school holidays 

Other Requirements

Must have a UK driving licence

Must have access to own vehicle

All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check

Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.

About the employer:

I am a mother to my 7 year old  son who has  autism and some mobility issues. He is a happy boy with a great sense of humour who loves routine and familiarity.  He loves trains, swimming and theme parks 

Nature of the work:

I am looking for a kind and patient PA to engage my son in activities he enjoys in the community, whilst keeping him safe. Experience of dealing with children with autism is essential, along with the ability to use visuals, Makaton signing, team teach restraint, driving licence and own car. 

Typical duties

Personal Care:   

  • Supervise my son when he uses the toilet and assist with wiping or nappy change if appropriate. Ensure he and his environment are clean and hygienic eg  hand washing.
  • Helping my son to get dressed and undressed when needed eg when going swimming
  • Mealtimes my son will need to be spoon-fed.

Social:             

  • Accompanying my son when accessing social and leisure activities, including swimming and trips to theme parks and other activities he enjoys.
  • Keeping my son safe and to be aware that he can be unpredictable.
  • Encourage my son to leave the house and promote independence.
  • On occasion engaging my son in activities at home.

  • Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
