Job Title: Personal Buddy

Hours/shifts: 5 hours during the week, potentially around end of school time.

• My son is almost 8 and has Autism.
• He is a very happy and jolly child but can get loud and upset during a ‘meltdown.’
• He loves most activities but sometimes needs to warm up to the idea of certain things so it’s important to be patient and help encourage him.
• He also enjoys indoor activities including drawing and painting.
• His language is basic but it is important to engage him and pay attention as thrives on interaction.
• I will mainly need you to occupy him when he gets in, play with him and suggest activities that he may want to engage in.
Other Requirements  
• Driving license not essential but could be an advantage 
All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check
Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.
Typical duties
Domestic -      
Encouragement to clean up after activities. 
Personal Care: 
He may need prompting with handwashing.
My son can dress himself but may need encouragement to do this.
You will be required to play with my son and interact with him.
It is important to occupy him and find new activities for him to do.
Use visual, sensory aids to help explain what you are doing or where you are going to get to know my son and help him understand certain situations.
He’s risk aware to an extent but has limited understanding and therefore needs constant supervision
Person specification
The successful applicant will be: 
Experienced with autistic children preferably in a Special Needs School setting.
Reliable with good time-keeping
Very Sociable/ Chatty
Happy, to match my son’s personality
Energetic as he will feed off this and become more engaged.
Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised
Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom 
Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety
