Job Title: Personal Care Assistant

Hourly rate: up to £12.50 dependant on experience/training

Hours/shifts available: Mon 5pm-10pm, Tues 8am-8pm, Thurs 5pm-10pm, Saturday 8am to 8pm (can be alternate Saturdays to suit). Exact hours may be negotiated.

• Looking for a caring and dedicated PA to join our small, friendly and dynamic team of PAs who provide support to my daughter who has complex medical needs.
• She has a wicked sense of humour, enjoys being around others and having a giggle
• Hourly rate up to £12.50 per hour, dependent on experience and training
• It is really important that my daughter is treated as an individual and that her PAs treat her with respect and dignity, recognising her opinions and wishes.
• You will be working within our family home as well as supporting her to get out and about taking part in the activities she enjoys.
• You will usually be working alongside another PA on a 2:1 basis
• My daughter is fully wheelchair dependent and non-verbal. The nature of support you provide will include manual handling, personal care and medical interventions.
• As a member of the team you will be treated with respect and supported in your role as you learn the skills you will need.
• You will be provided with a full range of mandatory training covering all aspects of her care. This will be through a combination of face to face and on-line.

Other Requirements:
• "Exemption is claimed under the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9."
• Must be comfortable with cats
• Non-smoker preferred or someone who is willing to refrain from smoking during work hours.
• Must have a UK driving licence (over 25 for insurance purposes)

Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.

Typical duties

Domestic :
• Undertaking housekeeping tasks such as bed making, changing bed linen, cooking and general tidying and cleaning.

Personal Care:
• Washing, bathing and dressing
• Meeting personal hygiene needs – full PPE supplied
• Lifting and Handling using range of equipment including hoists, slings and sliding sheets. PAs are required to maintain our daughter’s dignity at all times and be aware of the need for careful handling.
• Post-holder is required to give range of medications, support with medical interventions and complete accurate records accordingly.

• Accompanying on trips in the community such as college, hydrotherapy, shopping and days out enabling her to engage in a wide range of activities which will enhance her quality of life.

• Accompanying to medical appointments
• Assisting with daily physio and use of equipment such as standing frames and full training will be given
• Attending additional training as required
Person specification
The successful applicant will be:

• Entitled to work in UK
• Female due to personal care needs
• Full, clean driving licence and is over the age of 25 required by insurance company
• Patient with a genuine empathy and willingness to learn and understand the needs and challenges of a disabled young adult
• Honest and trustworthy
• Reliable with good time keeping
• Self motivated
• Hygienic and well presented
• Able to follow instructions as well as work on their own initiative when required
• Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety
• Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard

• Previous experience of providing personal care
• Experience of working with people with a severe physical disability
• Flexibility to work some night shifts, cover sickness/holiday within the Team
• Availability to accompany the family on holiday/weekend away on occasion

Whilst previous experience is desirable, the qualities of enthusiasm, commitment and a sense of fun and a person centred approach are more important in the right candidate. Through on the job training and working alongside the Senior PA, there will be the opportunity to gain the knowledge and experience required.
