Hours/shifts: Minimum of 7 hours per week term times. Work also available in school holidays

Summary

 

The PA will report directly to the disabled child’s mother who is the employer.

The nature of the work is to provide care for our young son in our home and in the community.

Other Requirements

         

It would be desirable to;

  • Be a driver with own car and full UK driving licence and happy to drive my son in your car. You will need business use on your car insurance as well as an up to date MOT.
  • Use Makaton sign language
  • Be able to work in a busy household

         

Description

Typical duties

 

Personal Care: 

  • Maintain the safety of my son in our home and in the local community; this involves constant supervision.
  • Assist with personal hygiene; e.g. washing for school, washing hands, face, blowing nose, cleaning his teeth, toilet hygiene
  • Assist with dressing and undressing such as putting shoes and coats on or taking them off when needed with the aim of developing his independence
  • Support him to organise himself and his belongings
  • Supervise him eating and drinking and offer support when needed with the aim of developing his independence
  • Give daily food supplements
  • Reassure him and support him if he becomes anxious or upset

Any other task that is reasonable

  • Provide my son with company and stimulation; ensure he has fun; entertain, stimulate and play with him
  • Talk with him and support him with communication

 

  • Support him to fully participate in activities at home and in the community
  • Accompany him to local activities
  • Take him to activities in the community e.g. eating out, shopping, park
  • Any other task that is reasonable
  • Take to and collect from school
  • Sitting in the evening
  • You will need to manage money on outings and keep all receipts to give to the employer
  • Any other task that is reasonable

The successful applicant will:

  • Have experience of working with children/young people with additional needs
  • Be able to learn and understand the disabled young person’s needs and emotions
  • Be honest and cheerful with a good sense of humour
  • Work to a high standard of health and safety at all times
  • Be reliable and consistent with excellent timekeeping
  • Be able to respect privacy and confidentiality
  • Be able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative and be flexible
  • Refrain from smoking while at work
  • Be willing to be police checked (enhanced DBS). Please note that a criminal record will not necessarily be a bar to obtaining the position
  • Be legally allowed to work in the UK
