Job Title: Personal Care Assistant/Support Worker

Hours/shifts:  9.30AM to 3.30pm Mon & Thurs (some flexibility with days)
• I am looking for caring, patient and reliable PAs to support me in my home, which I share with my husband
• I use a wheelchair full-time and require support to enable me to get out of the house to visit the local area, coffee shops, garden centre etc
• I use a communication device
• Duties will include full support with all aspects of my personal care, assistance with washing and dressing and transferring into my wheelchair through use of hoist
• You will also be required to prepare snacks and meal and provide assistance for me to eat and drink
• Experience of working with disabled people and providing care and support is an advantage, but a willingness to learn is more important
• You should be friendly, trustworthy and flexible
• All professional training will be provided
Other Requirements
• "Exemption is claimed under the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9."   
• UK driving licence an advantage
All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check
Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.
Typical duties
Domestic -       
• Some light general housework
• Preparing drinks, snacks and meals.
• Assisting me with shopping trips
• Tidying
Personal Care: 
• Full assistance with washing and bathing/showering as required
• Assistance with applying cream
• Catheter care
• Hoisting onto the commode
• Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings
• Getting into bed if required
• Assistance with getting out of bed and transferring to wheelchair using a hoist
• Help with medication
• Assistance with eating and drinking orally and via tube (PEG/RIG)
• Helping with other aspects of personal care as required
• Assistance with eating and drinking
• Physiotherapy exercises
• Accompanying and assisting the employer on shopping trips when required
• Accompany employer when accessing social and leisure activities eg hydro-therapy
• Accompanying when clothes-buying, including help with lifting clothes on/off the rails.
• Accompanying on trips out e.g. local shops, walks, café visit, library, cinema or garden centre
• Driving wheelchair adapted vehicle and accompanying employer as required
• Whilst on duty at the employer’s home watching TV and assisting with craft activities
Person specification
The successful applicant will be:
• Female due to personal care needs 
• Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality
• Reliable with good time-keeping
• Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
• Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised
• Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
• Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills
• Honest and cheerful
• Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
• Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom
• Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety
Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
