Hours/shifts:

 

Monday 8.30am – 10.30 am

Tuesday 8.30am – 1.30pm

Wednesday 8.30am-10.30am

Thursday 8.30am – 1.30pm

Friday 8.30am – 10.30am

 

Hours can be amended slightly. For example a 9am start or longer shifts on an alternative day. Open to job share.

 

Summary

  • I am a man in my late forties looking for support within my home and out in the community.
  • I have MS, this condition means that I now need support with transfers; I also use a manual wheel chair.
  • I need support with washing/dressing and personal care in the mornings.
  • I would like to access the community and be able to enjoy social activities like going to the cinema, being pushed along the beach in my wheelchair or visiting a cafe.
  • I really enjoy watching football and following Formula 1 racing.
  • I require a driver with their own car for the longer shifts so that I can access the community.

Other Requirements       

  • Must be comfortable with pets
  • Must be happy to work in a vaping environment
  • Must have a UK driving licence
  • Must have access to own vehicle

         

All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check

Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.

Description

Typical duties

Domestic -     

Changing bed linen

Bed making

Taking out rubbish

General housework, including cleaning, dusting and vacuuming.

Preparing drinks, snacks and meals.

Shopping

Making tea for the employer's guests

 

Personal Care: 

  • Washing and bathing/showering – towelling dry
  • Help getting into and out of bath/shower as required
  • Using the toilet
  • Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings
  • Assistance with getting out of bed using a hoist
  • Getting in and out of the wheelchair ('transferring')

Social:         

  • Accompanying and assisting employer on shopping trips when required
  • Accompany employer when accessing social and leisure activities.
  • Driving and accompanying to social events such as; Cinema
  • Accompanying on trips out eg to the garden centre, beach, cinema, craft fairs, local visits, out shopping for fun, attending social events, attending therapies and disability group
  • The above duties will involve driving the employer in the PA’s car, lifting the folding wheelchair in/out of car, pushing the employer’s wheelchair when out. 
  • Whilst on duty at the employer’s home watching TV and assisting with craft activities
  • Lifting the folding wheelchair in/out of car, pushing the employer’s manual wheelchair when out.

The successful applicant will be:   

  • Able to tolerate the employer vaping in the work place
  • Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality
  • Reliable with good time-keeping
  • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
  • Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised
  • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
  • Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Honest and cheerful
  • Creative
  • Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
  • Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom
  • Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety

Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
