Description Typical duties Domestic - Laundry – washing, drying (both hanging on line outside and using tumble dryer), ironing, putting away Changing bed linen Bed making General cleaning to ensure the home remains clean and hygienic to reduce risk of infection Taking out rubbish General housework, including cleaning, dusting and vacuuming. Occasional minor household maintenance eg changing light bulbs, taking down curtains for washing Preparing drinks, snacks and meals. Shopping Maintenance of small garden, perhaps half an hour a week General Tidying Escort the Assistance Dog outside in the morning for toileting purposes Making tea for the employer's guests Personal Care: Hoisting into shower chair, ensuring shower toiletries/towel etc are to hand and being within earshot if assistance is required Assistance with applying cream General hair/skin care Disposal of catheters Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings Getting into bed Assistance with getting out of bed using a hoist Dispensing medication from blister packs into pots for customer to take (ensuring medicines are stored out of reach) Helping with other aspects of personal care as required Getting in and out of the wheelchair ('transferring') Social: When required accompany the employer, who drives his own wheelchair adapted vehicle and has a power chair, when accessing social and leisure activities such as the cinema, pub, restaurant Accompanying and assisting employer on shopping trips when required Accompanying employer to doctors/hospital appointments when required Occasional longer journeys ie to hospital appointments Accompanying on trips out e.g. to the vet Person specification The successful applicant will be: Cheerful, patient and flexible with a good sense of humour Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality Reliable with good time-keeping Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties Honest and cheerful Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety Possession of clean, UK driving licence an advantage As well as completion of a DBS Check, successful applicants will be required to complete mandatory training in items such as manual handling, medicines awareness, infection control, first aid, Health & Safety and Food Preparation Whilst previous experience is desirable, the qualities of enthusiasm, commitment, a sense of fun and a person centred approach are more important in the right candidate.
