Job Title:  Personal Care Assistant/Carer/Support Worker

Hourly rate:   £10.50 (Saturday)

Hours/shifts:  Saturdays 10am to 12 noon and 5pm to 10pm.  Flexibility to cover holiday/sickness on other days an advantage.

Summary

  • I am an independent gentleman seeking support to enable me to continue living in my own home
  • I need support with personal care, preparation of meals, dispensing medication and assisting with transfers to and from my wheelchair
  • I have an assistance dog who needs escorting outside a couple of times a day
  • I am looking for candidates who are able to work on their own initiative when required, are reliable, cheerful and flexible with a good sense of humour
  • £10.50 per hour on Saturdays
  • This is a rewarding role with all professional training provided

Other Requirements

  • Must be comfortable with working dog and instruction will be given on how to interact with him correctly
  • UK driving licence an advantage

Description

Typical duties

Domestic -   

Laundry – washing, drying (both hanging on line outside and using tumble dryer), ironing, putting away

Changing bed linen

Bed making

General cleaning to ensure the home remains clean and hygienic to reduce risk of infection

Taking out rubbish

General housework, including cleaning, dusting and vacuuming.

Occasional minor household maintenance eg changing light bulbs, taking down curtains for washing

Preparing drinks, snacks and meals.

Shopping

Maintenance of small garden, perhaps half an hour a week

General Tidying

Escort the Assistance Dog outside in the morning for toileting purposes

Making tea for the employer's guests

Personal Care: 

Hoisting into shower chair, ensuring shower toiletries/towel etc are to hand and being within earshot if assistance is required

Assistance with applying cream

General hair/skin care

Disposal of catheters

Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings

Getting into bed

Assistance with getting out of bed using a hoist

Dispensing medication from blister packs into pots for customer to take (ensuring medicines are stored out of reach)

Helping with other aspects of personal care as required

Getting in and out of the wheelchair ('transferring') 

Social:   

When required accompany the employer, who drives his own wheelchair adapted vehicle and has a power chair, when accessing social and leisure activities such as the cinema, pub, restaurant

Accompanying and assisting employer on shopping trips when required

Accompanying employer to doctors/hospital appointments when required

Occasional longer journeys ie to hospital appointments

Accompanying on trips out e.g. to the vet

Person specification

The successful applicant will be:

Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative

Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised

Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties

Honest and cheerful

Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom

Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety

Possession of clean, UK driving licence an advantage

As well as completion of a DBS Check, successful applicants will be required to complete mandatory training in items such as manual handling, medicines awareness, infection control, first aid, Health & Safety and Food Preparation

 Whilst previous experience is desirable, the qualities of enthusiasm, commitment, a sense of fun and a person centred approach are more important in the right candidate.
