Work in social care Working as a Personal Assistant Personal Care Assistant/Support Worker DP4966a Location: East Grinstead Hourly rate: £10 per hour Reference: DP4966a Summary We are looking for someone to assist with looking after our 13 year old son, flexibly over school holidays. Our son has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, is in a wheelchair and is unable to lift or transfer himself. He also has epilepsy which is well controlled with medication. Assistance with personal care, feeding, looking after his well-being and generally helping to keep him entertained are the main focuses of this role.He will be attending some school holiday activities but we need someone to help get him ready in the morning and to take him to the activity centre. With a break in between, we will then need him to be collected and brought home where help with the afternoon/evening routine will be required. We have a wheelchair access vehicle which we will insure you on so that you can use it to transport our son around. Activity times in the day will vary so flexibility will be needed with hours (we can discuss hours ahead of holidays but will be a minimum of 25 hours per week unless otherwise agreed). To give you a rough idea of what the day will be like, please see the example below: 8am Arrive to help get our son dressed, toileted and given tube feed & meds. 10:30am Time to be dropped off at activity centre (example, Ashenground Centre, Haywards Heath). Break to do as you wish – the car can still be used! 4:30pm Jack to be collected from Ashenground Centre and brought home. 5:00pm Once home, given dinner and tube feed depending on amount eaten orally. Help to get him bathed and settled. 7:30pm Finish Hours/Shifts: All school holidays including all half terms, Easter break, 3 weeks over the summer holidays and some days over the Xmas holidays. We guarantee that a minimum of 20 hours a week will be scheduled but on average, depending on activities it will be more like 30 hours a week (6 hours a day). No weekends. We do also need some help in the evenings Monday – Friday from 4:30pm to 6:30pm during term time, however, while it would be helpful it isn’t a must for this position.
