Arran is a 29-year-old young man funded by continuing health care, he is full time powered wheelchair user and is looking for a team of PA’s to support him within and outside his family home. 

Arran loves music and is very into making short films and videos; he enters these into competitions and posts them on his Youtube channel. He enjoys going off to see bands playing in London and locally, and has been to various comic con conventions. There is a fair amount of manual handling which is needed to support Arran, so PA’s need to be physically fit and preferably able to drive his large wheelchair accessible van. 

Arran is a MASSIVE power ranger fan and will spend hours looking on the internet for new power ranger items, or ideas for things for him and his PA to make, create or fix.  Some of the things Arran wants from his PA’s are the ability to be creative, easy going, flexible, sense of humour and a willingness to try new things 

To support Arran to do what he wants to do that day, dependant on the individual PA roles.

Arran needs two PA’s to support him with getting ready for the day, this will involve all aspects of personal care, washing, dressing and skin care routine, medication and having breakfast.

After breakfast Arran will let his PA’s know what he would like to do for the day this could include –

Supporting Arran to any appointments 

Internet research 

Alternative arts and craft – Arran and his PA’s have completed many projects to date examples are making power ranger helmets, spray painting figures, glass engraving etc.

Creating videos and reviewing places and events he’s been to.

Trips out

Booking appointments

Supporting Arran to keep his bathroom/ bedroom clean- cleaning, dusting, hovering  


We are looking to be as flexible as possible for the right person. Part time and fulltime hours available we are looking to cover 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and occasional weekend cover for those happy to cover weekend working hrs.  

Other Requirements

Must be comfortable with pets-Must be comfortable with cats 

Must have a UK driving licence & Must be over 25 to drive the wheelchair accessible large Van

All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check

Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.


Nature of the work:

You will assist in all aspects of his care including his physical, social, emotional, spiritual, educational, recreational, and vocational development in a manner, which promotes his dignity and independence.

Participate in all aspects of household chores, including laundry, meal planning and preparation, general house cleaning and shopping.  

Typical duties

Domestic -       

  • You will be working within a family home and the duties will include domestic duties such as helping out with-
  • At times doing the washing – washing of bedding and towels, hanging out to dry, ironing, putting away
  • Changing of the bed linen daily and re making the bed
  • Helping to keep the bedroom and bathroom clean – dusting, wiping down equipment, hovering. 
  • At times help may be needed with general housework, which could include cleaning, dusting and vacuuming. 
  • Preparing drinks, snacks and meals.
  • Shopping
  • Correspondence e.g. reading letters, help writing replies, form-filling, assisting with household paperwork
  • Making phone calls, booking appointments.

Personal Care:

  • Full support with Washing, gentle towel drying and skin care, oral care and applying creams.
  • Full Support using the toilet 
  • Dressing and undressing
  • Assistance with getting in and out of bed using a hoist
  • Medication administration – relevant support and training will be given in house and more formal training either online or workbook.
  • Helping with other aspects of personal care as required, this could be assisting individual to get changed at swimming pool/gym. 
  • Getting in and out of the wheelchair ('transferring') 
  • Meal preparation, cooking and cutting up - At times help will be needed with eating. 
  • Physiotherapy exercises. 


  • Accompanying and assisting on shopping trips, accessing social and leisure activities, including to cinema, bowling, meals out etc. 
  • Accompanying to doctors/hospital appointments when required and other journeys such as visits to family, friends.
  • Driving Arran to appointments and social activities-Occasional longer journeys to places such as London, Kent to visit zoo’s, wildlife places, museums etc. 
  • You may be asked to assist on occasional holidays away.
  • The above duties will involve driving the employer in his large assessible wheelchair van, and supporting him to get into the van in his electric wheelchair via a tail lift and securing the wheelchair and helping with the seat belt... 
  • Whilst on duty at the employer’s home watching TV and assisting with alterative craft activities, house hold chores

Person specification

The successful applicant will be: 

  • Non- smoking house hold, non-smoker preferred
  • Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality
  • Reliable with good time-keeping
  • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
  • Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised
  • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
  • Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Honest and cheerful
  • A basic understanding of computers, face book, emails, messenger etc
  • Creative
  • Able to speak and read English to a good standard
  • Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom
  • Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety
  • Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
