I am 56 years old and I’m paraplegic. I use an power chair. Positive and cheerful, but need support washing dressing and preparing food and drinks. I have a catheter with leg bag & night bag when on bed. I have 16.5 hours although I attend meetings locally and in London, which need support. I have a 19 year old cat, and a few bears!!! Must be happy to drive my car. I’m on oxygen 24/7 and due to have electric ceiling hoist soon to assist with transfers from chair to bed! I have a young granddaughter who comes after school Wednesday and Thursday so any support that can enhance her quality time with me would be greatly appreciated Hours/Shifts Up to 16.5 hours available per week Please apply if you can do any of these hours These hours are also flexible and can be discussed Other Requirements Must be comfortable with pets Must have a UK driving licence – must be willing to drive employer in their disability car All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts. Typical duties Domestic - Laundry, hanging out to dry, ironing, putting away Loading and unloading the washing machine Loading and unloading tumble dryer/washing line Changing bed linen Bed making General cleaning Taking out rubbish General housework, including cleaning, dusting and vacuuming. Preparing drinks, snacks and meals. Shopping Maintenance of small garden, perhaps half an hour a week Assist with cats (changing litter tray, feeding etc) Tidying Correspondence e.g. reading letters, help writing replies, form-filling, assisting with household paperwork Making phone calls on my behalf when I am too unwell to do this Making tea for the employer's guests Personal Care: Washing and bathing/showering – towelling dry/ drying hair Help getting into and out of bath/shower as required Assistance with applying cream General hair/skin care Catheter care Using the toilet Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings Getting into bed Help with dispensing tablets Assistance with medication i.e. helping to take tablets from foil/packets Getting in and out of the wheelchair ('transferring') Mealtimes e.g. cutting up food, assistance to eat Physiotherapy exercises Social: Accompanying and assisting employer on shopping trips when required Accompanying employer to doctors/hospital appointments when required Accompanying when clothes-buying, including help with un/dressing and lifting clothes on/off the rails. Occasional longer journeys Accompanying on trips out e.g. to the library, the vet, Driving and accompanying to social events such as: Theatre Accompanying on trips out e.g. to take photographs at the beach or in the woods or, visiting friends. Accompanying on trips out eg to the garden centre, beach, cinema, craft fairs, local visits, out shopping for fun, attending social events, attending therapies and disability group Accompanying to social meetings eg friends, family The above duties will involve driving the employer in their mobility car, lifting the folding wheelchair in/out of car, pushing the employer’s wheelchair when out.
