Job Title: Personal Support Assistant (PA)
Location: Basingstoke            
Hourly rate: £10 per hour

Hours/shifts: Seven hours per week, times/ days to be agreed with the employer
Summary
• We are looking for a fun and outgoing PA to support our 10 year old son with Autism to access the community and socialise with his peers. 
• Working closely with us, his parents you will be required to plan fun and engaging activities that will be safe, enjoyable and help our son to build on his language skills.
• Experience of working with children with Autism is desirable but not essential as training can be given if you have a patient and kind manner and are a good role model.
• While promoting our son’s independence there will be some personal care tasks involved in this role such supporting him with toileting and encouraging him to eat as he can be a picky eater.
• Our son is energetic and enjoys physical activity so you will be required to have lots of energy and keep up with him.
• It is essential for you to have a full, clean driving license, the appropriate insurance including for business use and access to a car. A mileage allowance will be given when used for work purposes.
Other Requirements:
• Must have a UK driving licence 
• Must have access to own vehicle

Description
Typical duties-
Domestic :
• Preparation of agreed meals, snacks and drinks clearing away once finished.
• Setting up and tidying away after sensory play and other activities.       
Personal Care:
• Support with toileting and ensuring hygiene and cleanliness.
• Supervision and support as required during meal and snack times.
• Encouragement to try new foods as agreed by parents.
Social and other duties:  
• Engaging our son in play and planning appropriate activities.
• Maintaining a safe home environment by observing and removing hazards.
• Constant supervision within the home environment and while in the community.
• Consistent use of distraction techniques as agreed with parents.
• Recognising and supporting emotional needs and non-verbal communication, offering comfort and reassurance when required.
Person specification
The successful applicant will:
• Be able to work alongside and with the guidance of us, the employer/ parents.
• Have some experience of working with children with Autism or is willing to learn.
• Be willing to undertake training to understand and manage our son’s needs.
• Have some knowledge of positive behaviour support approaches. (This is desirable but not essential)
• Have a patient, warm and caring attitude.
• Be friendly, fun and outgoing.
• Be punctual, reliable and trustworthy.
• Be well organised and able to maintain professional standards and confidentiality.
• Be able to use their own initiative.
• Respect the families’ home environment.
