Job Title: Personal Support Assistant

Hourly rate: £180 per 24 hour shift

Hours/shifts: 4 x 24 hr shifts per 4 week period. Plus shifts to cover holidays and sickness

• This is not just a care job!
• My team work 24hr. shifts usually 2 shifts back to back. Different days are worked each week including weekends. The shift usually starts at 8.00am depending on my work schedule.
• My work with Just Different takes me across the country delivering workshops to mainstream schools, hospitals and to a variety of conferences. I usually travel in my own adapted vehicle or by train. Nights are often spent away from home in hotels with no expense to the employee.
• I also enjoy weekends away visiting my girlfriend, family and friends.
• Being a referee for the Paralympic sport Boccia also takes me away from home.
• I am in a serious relationship with my girlfriend who also has cerebral palsy and spends time at my home.
• Full training on all aspects of this job will be given, from feeding me, and all personal care, to assisting me with workshops and presentations.
• If you can cook great food, enjoy driving and seeing the country, and have a good sense of humour, and being part of a team this could be the job for you.
• I am male, in my late 30’s and have cerebral palsy. I use a power wheelchair & speech synthesizer.
• I run my own charity, Just Different and am a Co – Chair of a national charity Communication Matters.
• My commitments require a considerable amount of driving in my own accessible vehicle and nights away from home.
• I also enjoy theatre, cinema, eating out and visiting friends and family.

Other Requirements

• Must have a UK driving licence
• Helpful to have own vehicle as I live about 1 mile from nearest station
All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check
Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.

Typical duties


General cleaning up after meals / snacks
Light housework, including dusting and vacuuming
Loading and unloading the washing machine, hanging out to dry.
Ironing and putting away laundry.
Changing bed linen,
Bed making,
General cleaning
Taking out rubbish,
General housework, including cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping.
Minor household maintenance eg. changing light bulbs, taking down curtains for washing
Keeping my equipment clean and in good condition
Preparing drinks, snacks and meals.
Help in the garden
Correspondence form-filling, assisting with household paperwork
Making phone calls on my behalf
Making tea for the employer's guests

Personal Care:
Help required with all aspects of personal care.
Washing, showering/bathing, and drying.
Using the toilet.
Dressing and undressing.
Getting into & out of bed.
Assistance with medication.
Helping with other aspects of personal care as required, for example assisting employer to get changed in swimming pool.
Mealtimes. Feeding the employer and giving drinks.
Accompanying and assisting employer on shopping trips when required
Accompany employer when accessing social and leisure activities, including going to swimming pool
Accompanying employer to doctors/hospital appointments when required.
