The overall purpose of the role is to ensure that the care service provides a high quality care service to its users. Enabling customers to live independently with choice and control in their own home.

  • Lead in providing high quality, person centred care to customers, promoting dignity and choice at all times
  • Keep accurate records and maintain confidentiality
  • Mentor and coach new support workers
  • Communicate and share information effectively with customers, colleagues and line managers

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • To be an active member of the Care Service team, working in close collaboration with the care support workers, administrator, care quality officer and registered care manager.
  • To participate in team meetings and the development of the service.
  • To represent and promote the care service externally, to maintain and enhance its reputation.
  • To support with the staff induction and mentoring of new care support workers
  • To ensure that care is provided and health & safety guidelines followed according to all relevant policies, procedures and regulations
  • To provide personal care to customers in their own home as identified in the Customer Care Plan
  • To provide domestic assistance as identified in the Customer Care Plan, which could include cleaning, food preparation, laundry, shopping, accompanying the customer in the community
  • To transport customers to appointments and activities
  • To assist with exercises, and prescribed plans and follow any medical instructions which apply carefully and consistently
  • To organise time and resources based on the individual needs of customers
  • To manage any unanticipated events or unstable situations
  • To keep accurate and up-to-date notes relating to tasks undertaken in a customer’s home
  • To inform the office of any changes to a customer’s situation or needs which need to be addressed
  • To report immediately to the office any illness, accident or non-entry to a customer’s home
  • To be part of the on-call rota a minimum of twice a week


  • Knowledge and experience of social care/personalisation/direct payments support services
  • Home care techniques including personal care, house cleaning, food preparation, assistance with eating
  • Experience of being part of an On Call Rota
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and provide information to people with diverse support needs and abilities
  • Ability to work within safeguarding protocols, ensuring accurate recording and reporting
  • QCF level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent

Salary: £19,000 a year plus additional on-call rate of £25

Hours: 35 hours per week - various shifts including alternate weekends

On-call hours: the LAH service operates an on call system between 6am and 12am. You will be required to be on call between 5pm to 12am & 6am to 9am at least twice a week.
